Julio Teheran: Atlanta Braves Call Up Baseball's Top Pitching Prospect
As if the promotion of Eric Hosmer wasn't enough big news for the week, according to sources including HardballTalk, the Atlanta Braves have decided to call up top prospect Julio Teheran to start on Saturday against the Phillies.
Teheran was ranked as the Braves' top prospect by Baseball America. In addition, Baseball America ranked him as the fifth best prospect in baseball and the best pitching prospect in the game.
Teheran was absolutely dominant in the minors this season. He has made five starts at Triple-A Gwinnett and boasts a 1.80 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. Teheran has posted a 3-0 record and has 25 strikeouts in 30 innings pitched.

At the moment, it is uncertain if Teheran will just be making a spot start or if he will be staying with the Braves for the duration of the season. He has already proven that he deserves his chance in the majors, and he could prove a lot more with a good start.
If Teheran has a successful debut against the Phillies, it would be hard for the team to send him down. Teheran has the abilities to be one of the Braves' top three, if not top two, starters by the end of the season.
Should Teheran stay in the majors for the duration of the season, I think his numbers could project to be something like this: 10-5, 3.47 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 145 Ks in 160 innings. There is a lot of potential here.
