Favre, Bryant Find Themselves in Similar Positions

Who thought Kobe Bryant and Brett Favre would be where they are standing today? 

Over the summer, both superstars talked about the need for more talent on their respective teams.  Favre was reportedly disappointed with the Packers for not grabbing Randy Moss.  Bryant was dissapointed the team did not contend for championships, bashing the management and Andrew Bynum.

Today Bryant is on a team that currently has sole control over the West's number one seed.  Favre is on a team that will host the NFC Championship game.

Bryant and Bynum are becoming one of the NBA's most feared guard/center combinations.  The process unfortunately has been paused, as Bynum will miss eight weeks following a kneecap injury.  But the man Bryant once bashed is now the team's number two option and Bryant will miss him every game he plays in his absence.  However Jordan Farmar and the bench mob, along with the return of Derek Fisher, have made the Lakers a dangerous team in the Wild Wild West.

The Lakers team has the Lakers' superstar thinking championships.  Bryant told KCAL's John Ireland after the Seattle victory, "[Andrew] makes us a championship caliber team."  Nobody expected the Lakers to be the number one seed in the West come mid-January.      

Brett Favre on the other hand admitted the Packers have surprised him with the way they have been playing after a win over the Seahawks. 

Favre also has a very young team that goes out and competes in every football game.  When people realized the Packers were a real contender, they said that Green Bay's hole was their running game. 

The result:  Ryan Grant who has completely changed the Packers complexion and filled the gap in their running game.

Now both superstars' teams are pursuing possible championships.  Favre's team needs two more wins to be crowned Super Bowl Champions.  Bryant's team still has a road to travel, but the championship seems to be on the horizon of L.A.  In the end, both stars could end up with championships, positions where nobody in their right minds would have thought of.
