MLB Rumors: Cliff Lee's Top 5 Landing Spots Outside of Texas

Patrick ClarkeDec 2, 2010

Cliff Lee is a free agent this offseason, as everyone knows by now, and let us celebrate by taking a look at the five best suitors for his pitching services.

The ace seems content in Texas, but staying put is no fun—just ask LeBron James.

New York Yankees

Cliff Lee to New York is quite possible. The pitching ace would be beloved in the Big Apple and would likely make the Yankees instant favorites to win the 2011 World Series.

Everyone knows the Yankees have the money to throw at Lee, but the question is will that be enough to lure him away from a comfortable situation with the Rangers?

Washington Nationals

The Nationals are looking to build a rotation, and what better way to begin than with Stephen Strasburg and Cliff Lee?

Though Washington would likely be low on Lee's list of potential teams, they have money to spend and a pitching void that Lee would certainly fill nicely.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Dodgers fans would be storming the gates if Cliff Lee was pitching in the City of Angels.

Los Angeles has needs and must replace a number of names lost in free agency. Lee would be an excellent start and would likely give them a chance out west.

Kid Rock is going to need some help recruiting Cliff Lee if he hopes to bring him to Detroit.

Detroit isn't exactly paradise these days, and it would likely take an exceptional amount of money to attract Lee and his agent.

The Tigers have plenty of money to offer Lee, but with better teams out there, Detroit seems like a long shot.

Minnesota Twins

The Twins are another potential suitor for Cliff Lee this offseason. The Twins could lose a few pieces this offseason as well, opening up a spot for Lee's services on their roster.

However, it's tough to see the Yankees or Rangers letting Lee get away to another AL challenger this offseason. Minnesota is alive in the race for Lee, but barely.
