Kansas City-Denver: Reeling Chiefs Lose Grip on AFC West with Loss to Broncos

James BrownNov 13, 2010

The Kansas City Chiefs have a slim lead in the AFC West and if they want to maintain that lead they must beat the Denver Broncos this week. ย

The latest NFL football sports betting odds as posted by online sportsbook, BetPhoenix have the Chiefs listed as one-point favorites on the road.

The Kansas City Chiefs dropped a crucial game in the division when they lost in overtime to the Oakland Raiders last week. The Chiefs had defensive lapses late in the game and now lead the surging Raiders by one game in the loss column.

The Chiefs still possess the best rushing offense in all of football at an amazing 179 yards per game.ย  Their opponent this Sunday, the Denver Broncos, are on the opposite end of the spectrum as they have the worst rushing offense in all of football.

The Broncos don't focus on the run because their main offensive weapon is quarterback Kyle Orton and the passing game. The Broncos rank third in the NFL in passing at 296 yards per game just behind the Indianapolis Colts and the San Diego Chargers.

The passing game should be effective against a Chief secondary that ranks 21st in the league and was susceptible to the deep ball against the Raiders.

The Broncos have extremely talented corner backs and that will allow them to load the box in an attempt to stop the run. All-Pro Champ Bailey can go one-on-one with Kansas City Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe. This maneuver will give them the flexibility to shut down the run and put some pressure on Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel.

Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels knows how to prepare his team during the bye week as evident by the 6-2 record against the spread (ATS) in their last eight games following a bye week. The Chiefs are 1-8-1 ATS in their last 10 games as a favorite and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games following a loss against the spread.

The Broncos are a live divisional home underdog and get the win against the reeling Kansas City Chiefs.
