Jones was obviously irate after the loss and told reporters "People will suffer, and suffer the consequences."
The Cowboys entered this season with the highest aspirations of being the first team to play the Super Bowl in their home stadium.
After a 1-7 start they can now look forward to having a top ten draft pick next season.
Jones named offensive coordinator Jason Garrett as the interim coach and the final eight games will seemingly be his audition to keep the job for the future.
Garrett was given a ridiculous salary three years ago when he was a hot commodity for the Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens. Jones showed obvious plans to eventually replace Phillips with Garrett when he signed him to a $3 million contract as an assistant.
Moving forward the Cowboys will have to show some resolve as they showed none last night in front of a national audience. It has been clear for a while now that the team either did not respect Phillips or just didn't respond to his coaching style. The amount of penalties, especially dumb personal foul penalties and excessive celebration, falls on the head coach.
Jason Garrett has his hands full with this roster, but maybe they will rally around him and restore some dignity to the once proud franchise.
