NFL Fantasy Football Week 8 Sleepers: Kitna, Blount and More

Ryan LesterOct 29, 2010

During the bye weeks, you often have to roll out less than ideal lineups, especially when your players are nicked up. Thatโ€™s the nature of the beast. Sometimes you need a fantasy gem to be successful. Here are some of the under the radar players that could possibly pull out a win for you.

Jon Kitna, QB, Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys have been terrible this season, but once Kitna got into a rhythm, he looked decent. With weapons like Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, Roy Williams and Jason Witten as his disposal, Kitna could be solid this week. Especially when you consider heโ€™s facing the Jaguars, who have allowed a league high 16 passing TDs.

LeGarrette Blount, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Blount didnโ€™t set the world on fire last week, but he did manage to gain 72 yards on 11 carries (6.5 ypc). He isnโ€™t active in the passing game, but should get the work at the goal line. Heโ€™s facing Arizona, who ranks 29th with 141.3 rushing yards allowed per game.

Tim Hightower, RB, Arizona Cardinals

Hightower remains active despite Beanie Wellsโ€™ return. Against Tampa Bayโ€™s 31st ranked run defense (157.7 rushing yard per game), he should get an opportunity to contribute. He also can help in the passing game.

Blair White, WR, Indianapolis Colts

With Austin Collie and Dallas Clark out, Peyton Manning will work Blair into the mix. Anthony Gonzalez is a deeper sleeper, but I want to see him one game before I gamble on him. Houston ranks dead last with 319.8 passing yards allowed and tied for 29th with 14 passing TDs allowed.

Nate Burleson, WR, Detroit Lions

Burleson has scored in consecutive weeks. Matthew Stafford is expected to make the start against the Redskins, who rank 31st with 306.4 passing yards allowed per game. They have also yielded 10 passing TDs.

Owen Daniels, TE, Houston Texans

Daniels quietly caught five passes for 79 yards last week. I think this time the Texans will need to rely more on the passing game than in their first meeting. Daniels should be highly active in the attack.

St. Louis Rams Defense

When you think of the Rams, defense is not the first thing that pops into your mind. They do, however have 20 sacks on the year to go along with 11 forced turnovers (five INTs, six fumbles). They are facing the Panthers, who are scoring a paltry 12.5 points per game. The Panthers have allowed 18 sacks and have thrown 10 INTs.
