Yankees News: Francisco Cervelli Starting, Girardi Has No Job Options and Melky

BOSTON - OCTOBER 2: Francisco Cervelli #29 of the New York Yankees confers with A.J. Burnett after Cervelli misplayed a foul popup against the Boston Red Sox in the second game of a doubleheader at Fenway Park, October 2, 2010, in Boston, Massachusetts. (Photo by Jim Rogash/Getty Images)

Tonight is a very big game for the Yankees. It is not a must-win, but it is pretty much as close to it gets to one.

Unfortunately they have A.J. Burnett on the mound too, which makes things so much harder, but they don’t really have much of a choice.

Here are some notes:

  • Francisco Cervelli is starting tonight and batting ninth with Burnett on the mound.
  • The Cubs will keep Mike Quade on as their manager. Tony La Russa also signed on for another year in St. Louis, so it appears Joe Girardi is staying in the Bronx.
  • After his disappointing 2010 season, the Braves released former Yankees outfielder Melky Cabrera.

That’s all for now. I’ll have some more updates throughout the day though, including pitching matchups. So stay tuned...
