My initial reaction was that I would be able to break out my old purple Moss No. 84 Vikings jersey.
Then, after jumping around like a kid on Christmas for a few hours, I realized that the Patriots are in for a world of hurt.
Even when Moss wasn't making plays, he was making plays happen. Defenses are so busy covering Moss that they sometimes forget about Wes Welker, Aaron Hernandez, Julian Edelman, and the newly-emerged Danny Woodhead.
Now that you take away Moss, you are left with Wes Welker as the primary receiver and with a shaky run game, I'm not sure that's the best scenario.
Calling the Patriots! Calling the Patriots! There is a 6'5" receiver in lowly San Diego who is pretty unhappy right now. If you are willing to shell out that third-round pick and maybe some more, the Chargers may hook you up with Vincent Jackson.
Let's look at what V-Jax possesses in terms of statistics: 198 receptions, 3,400 yards, and 25 touchdowns. The most staggering statistic, however, is his 17.2 yards-per-catch. The guy simply gets up and brings the house down.
By acquiring V-Jax, the Patriots will have a solid No. 1 receiver who will again take attention off the other guys. Bill Belichick's offense thrives with the unknown guys. There is always a little guy who is making a play and turning heads. In my opinion, the Pats simply can't get it done with Welker as the No. 1 guy.
This deal could happen, but A.J. Smith is part of the Idiotus Moronicus species of General Manager, so who knows.
