Chiefs' Mahomes Dilemma 🤔

Randy Moss To the Vikings Makes the Patriots a Much Better Offensive Team

Nicholas GossOct 6, 2010

Randy Moss and the Patriots enjoyed great success together, unfortunately the two enjoyed far less post season success both parties would have hoped for. Randy Moss won zero Super Bowls with the Patriots, and coach Bill Belichick has finally realized the offensive is better without Randy.

Tom Brady and Randy Moss recorded all time NFL numbers in 2007, en route to an 18-1 season ending in heartbreaking fashion to the Giants in Super Bowl XLII. Brady threw a record 50 touchdown passes, and Moss caught a record 23 touchdowns.

Brady and Moss were a amazing duo, but the offense was weaker and less scary than the ones who hoisted three Super Bowl trophies in 2001, 2003, and 2004.

Brady looked for Moss too much, often forcing throws to him. Whether Brady was trying to please Moss or he thought Randy would catch everything, the offense became easy to defend.

The Patriots scored 38 or more points in eight times in 2007, but failed to score more than 35 points in each playoff game, scoring an embarrassing 14 points in Super Bowl XLII.

Randy Moss had only seven catches in the '07 playoffs, and has only averaged three catches per game in four Patriots playoff games. He is not a clutch player, and cannot perform in cold weather games.

The Patriots Super Bowl winning teams from 2001, 2003, and 2004 were built on a balanced offense. Receivers like Deion Branch, David Givens, and Troy Brown were not number one guys, but they were very reliable.

Branch was the MVP of Super Bowl XXXIX, catching 11 passes from Brady.

Without Moss, the Patriots will regain their offensive balance. Impressive performances from running backs Ben-Jarvus Green-Ellis, Danny Woodhead, and Sammy Morris have made Belichick believe he can rely on his ground game to help his passing attack.

Wes Welker now becomes the Patriots' best receiver, even though his value has always been far greater than Moss.

The most important reason why Moss' departure is not a big deal for this season, is the play of the two rookie tight ends, Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski.

Aaron Hernandez is a major threat to defenses with his size, speed, and receiving ability. Tom Brady has never had two tight ends this good to pass to.

Hernandez is a Dallas Clark type of player, who is too fast to be covered by a linebacker, forcing the defense to sacrifice a safety to defend him.

While Hernandez will dominate the middle of the field, the new deep threat in the Patriots passing game will be second year receiver Brandon Tate. Go add Tate off the waiver wire in your fantasy league, because his offensive role is about to increase 10-fold in the coming weeks.

Tate's speed has been on full display through four weeks, returning two kickoffs for touchdowns.

Tate is about to enter the role he was drafted for, the Patriots were not going to re-sign Moss this off season, and Tate's time to shine is now, and he's more than ready.

The Patriots have been a team about character since Robert Kraft bought the team in the early 1990's. If a player causes a distraction on the field or off it, he's gone. Bill Belichick cut defensive team captain Lawyer Milloy just prior to the 2003 season, shocking everyone, even though Lawyer was a good teammate.

The Pats didn't miss a beat defensively without Milloy, because Belichick always has players ready to step up and fill in the holes. A bad start to the '03 season ended in a Super Bowl victory parade the following February.

Without Randy Moss, the New England Patriots will be a more dynamic offense. An offense that is too dependent on one player makes mistakes a balanced offense does not.

Tom Brady and Randy Moss were an all time duo, but the Moss experiment has run its course, and failed. New England knows how to cut their losses and move on better than any NFL team

The Patriots have the blueprint to a Super Bowl winning offense, and Bill Belichick has finally gone into his closet, dusted it off, and given it back to Tom Brady.
