San Diego Chargers Wide Receiver Vincent Jackson May Be Traded But Where To?
Vincent Jackson is the San Diego Chargers best wide receiver. He is a 6-5 230 pound wide receiver. He had 68 receptions, 1,167 yards, and 9 touchdowns in 15 games last season. Vincent has had back to back at least 1,000 yard seasons. Jackson was supposed to be suspended 3 games this year for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Last February Jackson was pulled over in his car and charged with driving under the influence. This was his second offense. Jackson wanted a new contract of the long term variety but the San Diego Chargers were not willing to pay him the amount that he wanted, and offered him a 1-year tender, that he refused to sign. Thus, Jackson was suspended another 3 games adding up to 6 games for the upcoming season. He and his representatives met with league officials, Tuesday, September 16 and agreed to reduce the suspension to 4 games if Jackson is traded by Wednesday, September 22.
Now, there are several teams Jackson could end being traded to. One of the strongest bidders for Jackson are the Minnesota Vikings, whose two tops wide receivers have been injured through out training camp and the pre-season. Sidney Rice was put onto the Physically Unable to Perform list on August 31,2010 after having hip surgery. Their second wide receiver Percy Harvin has been having debilitating head aches through out his life and is always questionable to play. Harvin is struggling with a hip injury this week and is questionable for Sundays game against the Miami Dolphins. I could see the Vikings trading for Jackson this week because they are running out of wide receivers and have been struggling at that position.
The Seattle Seahawks are also interested in acquiring Vincent Jackson. The Seahawks released T.J. Houshmandzadeh and their starting wide out is Deion Branch, and their other wide outs Mike Williams has a thigh injury, yet participated fully in practice, and Golden Tate who is a rookie. The Seahawks are looking for some experience at the wide receiver position.
Two other possible teams are the St. Louis Rams and the Washington Redskins. Both teams are in need of another wide receiver. The Rams name has been mentioned in the past to get Jackson, and the Redskin's quarterback Donovan McNabb worked out with Jackson in the off season making the Redskins a possible contender for Jackson.
I believe that if Vincent Jackson does get traded he will end up with the Minnesota Vikings. My feeling is that he will not be traded though. There is a lot to get done for a deal to get through and the team that gets him would have to give up at least 2 second round picks, because that's what Brandon Marshall was traded for, and Jackson has a trouble making past. He also wants a long term deal done in the ball park of 9 million dollars a year and teams usually aren't willing to give up that much money to a player that gets into trouble. Do you think Vincent Jackson will be Traded? Leave a comment about what you feel will happen.
