Fantasy Football Week 2: NFL Start 'Ems

Bruno Boys Fantasy FootballSep 16, 2010

Week 1 of the 2010 season is in the rearview mirror fantasy football owners. Now it's time to get in gear and make decisions about your roster for the week ahead. Most of us head into Week 2 with better ideas about  how our teams stack up in terms of strengths and weaknesses. Poor performances or underwhelming production from our high-level draft picks makes some of us itchy to make immediate roster changes. Others find it impossible not to want to tweak our lineups just because we can.  Unless you've been hit with injuries and need to find capable replacements or a quality player who add value to your team lands on the waiver wire, take a deep breath and resist the urge to overhaul your roster after just one week. Multiple injuries to fantasy starters in Week 1 created unexpected opportunities for some players and also led to good and bad matchups for the upcoming week and further down the road.  On that note, here are our “Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Start ‘Ems” for Week 2.

Michael Vick (Philadelphia Eagles) @ Detroit

After taking over Kevin Kolb )concussion), Vick looked a lot like his old self in Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers. He had 175 passing yards along with 103 yards rushing, and is going to get the start this week against the Detroit Lions in what should be a very favorable matchup.  Eagles head coach Andy Reid has aid Kolb will start if he is healthy, but since he will not practice until Friday he is unlikely to play. Vick is a solid play this week if you added him, especially since he brings the added element of racking up one point for every 10 yards rushing. Start the quick footed southpaw with confidence in Week 2.

Orton completed 21-of-33 passes for 295 yards and a touchdown in a Week 1 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Many fantasy football owners had written the fifth year signal caller off in 2010, however, he was impressive in the season opener and has a tempting matchup in Week 2. Don’t be fooled by the Seattle Seahawks allowing just 214 passing yards last week. This is a secondary that ranked 30th in the NFL against the pass in 2009 and surrendered 27 passing touchdowns on the year. Look for Orton to connect with his trio of underrated receivers in Eddie Royal, Jabar Gaffney and Brandon Lloyd en route to 250 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Rivers went 22-for-39 for 298 yards and two touchdowns while throwing no interceptions against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1, despite wet conditions last Monday night. He is clearly the engine that drives the Chargers’ offense, and Week 2 brings another favorable matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Chargers’ home opener.  The Jaguars allowed 295 passing yards to Denver Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton last week, and it’s pretty much inarguable that Rivers is more talented than Orton.  Look for him to at least approach 300 yards again and take advantage of a weak Jaguars’ secondary.
