Vince Young Brawl at Strip Club Leaves Tennesse Titans in a Bind

Tony BriscoeJun 14, 2010

Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young was cited as an instigator of a brawl that took place at a Dallas strip club early Sunday morning, and could face long-term suspension from the league.

The former Texas Longhorn superstar apparently got offended because a strip club employee antagonized him with teasing comments about his alma mater. Young proceeded to physically assault the man, 45, in the tiny office where the confrontation began.

As a result of the scuffle, which was caught on tape (watch the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mkoo_mRnao ), Young was fined a mere $500, but that could be just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the repercussions he will face professionally. Young, who is in his fifth year with the Titans organization, will most likely be facing a lengthy suspension considering Roger Goodell’s reprimanding of Adam “Pac Man” Jones for a similar incident.

The Titans, who were already considering the possibility of replacing Young as the starting QB, will most likely start training camp with stellar back-up Kerry Collins, but they do have other options.

Currently, Mark Brunell, J.P. Losman and Jamarcus Russell are still unrestricted free agents if the Titans would like to pursue those options.

Losman and Russell seem like especially attractive options at this point considering they are still young enough to build an organization around if the Titans should sign them. Both would most likely be back-ups this season, but Tennessee needs to look to the future in terms of their quarterbacks because the Vince Young rollercoaster is starting to mirror that of Terrell Owens, being more of a distraction than a beneficial contributor to the team.

However, Russell, the first overall draft pick in 2008, didn’t pan out in Oakland. Neither did Losman in Buffalo.

The Titans need to explore their options at QB for a backup this year, for the future of the organization, and maybe even for making Young work harder after his suspension if he feels that he is in jeopardy of losing his job.
