NFL Week 17 Picks: Predicting the Winner and Final Scores for All Season Finales
Much attention in Week 17 of the NFL season should focus on games taking place in both of the league's southern divisions. More specifically, two contests have massive playoff implications.
In the NFC, the 9-6 Atlanta Falcons, who are holding on to the sixth seed in the NFC, are hosting the 11-4 Carolina Panthers.
In the AFC, it's a similar situation: The 8-7 Tennessee Titans, who are holding on to the sixth seed in the AFC, are hosting the 10-5 Jacksonville Jaguars.

Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones posted six catches for 118 yards against the Carolina Panthers on November 5. If you just looked at his stat line and didn't watch the game, however, then the natural assumption should be that he had a productive day.
That would be accurate, but what the box score doesn't reveal is that Jones was close to a dominant performance.
In the first quarter, Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan just missed hitting Jones on a deep ball that would have gone for a touchdown.
In the fourth quarter, Jones beat Carolina safety Kurt Coleman and looked to have a sure touchdown but dropped the ball in the end zone.
A monster three-touchdown afternoon in which Jones approached (or even surpassed) 200 receiving yards wasn't out of the question, but some plays just didn't go his way.
Now Jones has another shot at the Panthers in a win-and-in home game for his team. If the Falcons are victorious, they are headed to the playoffs. If Atlanta loses and the Seattle Seahawks win, then they are going home.
Jones has dominated the Panthers at home in the past two seasons. In 2015, he and the Falcons gave the Panthers their only regular-season loss after the star wideout accumulated nine catches for 178 yards and a touchdown. Last season, Jones caught 12 passes for 300 yards and one touchdown en route to an NFC title.
The Panthers have historically had a tough time against Jones, and they haven't done particularly well against No. 1 wide receivers in general this season, either. Notably, the New York Jets' Robby Anderson, the Minnesota Vikings' Adam Thielen and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Mike Evans have produced 100-yard days over the past four weeks.
Therefore, the pick here is that Jones has another big game against the Panthers and leads Atlanta into the playoffs.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Tennessee Titans
The Tennessee Titans started the season 8-4, but three consecutive losses to NFC West teams have dropped them to 8-7 and on the brink of staying home for the playoffs.
Meanwhile, the Jacksonville Jaguars have clinched the AFC South, but they allowed 44 points against the 5-10 San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. In fairness, the 49ers have won four straight ever since starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo started calling signals, but the Jags had allowed just 14.9 points per game before Sunday. That number has since ballooned to 18.1.
Even though Jacksonville knows that it is going to be hosting a wild-card game for the playoffs, one has to imagine that it will be playing hard to try to gain the momentum lost in that defeat.
The Titans are obviously going all out in this one. If they win, they're in the playoffs: It's that simple. If they lose, they can still make it as long as the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Chargers also fall. That being said, the Bills and Bolts are playing two six-win teams (the Miami Dolphins and Oakland Raiders), so chances are that won't happen.
Tennessee won this matchup 37-16 earlier this season, but that was in Week 2. Both teams have gone through the usual ringer of the NFL campaign since then. Notably, the Jaguars' defense has vastly improved and been more consistent than what it showed in Week 2, and the Tennessee Titans' smash-mouth offense simply hasn't taken off this year like it did in 2016.
Ultimately, the difference here will be in the turnover battle. The Jags are second in the NFL in takeaways with 32 (21 interceptions, 11 fumble recoveries), while the Titans are fifth in giveaways (17 interceptions, seven lost fumbles).
Look for the Jaguars defense to return to form, ramp up the pressure and force a few turnovers, leading to shorter fields and points for an offense that has been clicking of late.
