Charlie Sheen Puts Babe Ruth World Series Ring, Red Sox Document Up for Auction

Timothy RappJun 26, 2017

Actor Charlie Sheen is about to make two historical pieces of MLB memorabilia available to auction.

According to Darren Rovell of ESPN.com, "Sheen told ESPN on Monday that he consigned Babe Ruth's 1927 World Series ring and an original copy of the sale document that sent The Bambino from the Boston Red Sox to the New York Yankees to auction house Lelands.com."

"I've enjoyed these incredible items for more than two decades and the time has come," Sheen said. "Whatever price it brings is gravy."

According to Rovell, bids for the ring are already over $600,000, while the document "has surpassed $400,000."

Sheen bought the items in the 1990s and kept them in pristine condition, and he said he hopes "they get into the hands of a collector who enjoys them as much as he did and can share them with the world," according to Rovell.

Ruth, of course, is arguably the greatest baseball player in the history of the game, famously hitting 714 career home runs. His 60 home runs in the 1927 season were more than 12 other teams totaled, and he hit an impressive .400 with two homers and seven RBI in the New York Yankees 4-0 sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Sheen, meanwhile, played pitcher Ricky "Wild Thing" Vaughn in the Major League movies. He's also an avid collector of baseball memorabilia, as Rovell reported he previously owned the baseball than infamously trickled through the legs of Boston Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series.
