Vince Young Applies for Trademark of 'Make Vince Great Again'
Former NFL quarterback Vince Young is eyeing a football comeback, and he reportedly has the slogan to go with it.
On Thursday, Ron Clements of Omnisport (h/t Sporting News) wrote Young submitted an application to the United States Patent and Trademark Office with the hopes of earning a trademark for the phrase "Make Vince Great Again."
While Young hasn't appeared in an NFL game since 2011 when he was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, there was a time when he was classified as great.
He led the Texas Longhorns to the national championship in the 2005 season with a dramatic 41-38 Rose Bowl victory over the USC Trojans. The Tennessee Titans then drafted him with the No. 3 overall pick, and he proceeded to make two Pro Bowls and earn the Associated Press Rookie of the Year.
That success quickly faded, and he threw four touchdowns and nine interceptions for the Eagles in 2011. Clements noted Young spent training camp with the Green Bay Packers in 2013 and had a tryout with the Cleveland Browns in 2014, but he couldn't land a spot with either team.
What's more, he was arrested in 2016 on a DWI charge.
Not everyone thinks the 33-year-old quarterback can complete his comeback to greatness, including the EA Sports Madden video game's Twitter page:
However, agent Leigh Steinberg said he and Young had "opened discussions" with the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Playing in the CFL may not be the ultimate dream for Young, but it could represent the first step toward making him great again.
