Chiefs Looking At Richardson
Tuesday, Nov. 1
On Tuesday, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Caplan reported the Kansas City Chiefs worked out Richardson.
This comes on the same day that the team placed Jamaal Charles on injured reserve due to complications in his recovery from a torn ACL from last season, via Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk.com.
His replacement, Spencer Ware, who has been solid as the Chiefs' impromptu starter, did not pass the second phase of concussion testing on Monday, according to Terez A. Paylorof the Kansas City Star.
Richardson came out of the University of Alabama as the most highly touted running back in the 2012 draft class.
After posting a junior season in which he rushed for 1,679 yards and 21 touchdowns, he was chosen third overall by the Cleveland Browns.
He put up 905 yards in his rookie season, although it came with an average of 3.6 yards per carry. Through two games of the 2013 season, he was dealt to the Indianapolis Colts because "he lacked the explosiveness the Browns' new regime is looking for," according to ESPN.com.
The change of scenery didn't do Richardson any good, as he rushed for just 977 yards and six touchdowns in 29 games with the Colts.
It forced Indianapolis to cut him in March of 2015, but Richardson was adamant that he could still be an elite back in the league, via Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star:
"I was trying to be somebody else. I need go out and run like me. It just wasn't a good fit there. I mean, I played my whole rookie year (in Cleveland) with broken ribs and almost had 1,000 yards. Come on, man.
"
Over the next few months, he would sign on with the Oakland Raiders and Baltimore Ravens but was cut on both occasions.
If Ware is unable to go in Week 9, the Chiefs will have to rely on Charcandrick West as their starter, but Richardson could have an opportunity to see some NFL-level reps if he is brought in to Kansas City and the injury bug continues to plague the backfield.
