Fitzpatrick Becomes 1st Player Since 2005 with 10 Picks Through 4 Games
New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has suffered through a nightmarish beginning to the 2016 season, becoming the first player since Daunte Culpepper in 2005 to throw 10 or more interceptions through the first four games of a campaign, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Fitzpatrick actually got off to a decent start, throwing just one pick (against three touchdowns) in the first two weeks as the Jets posted a 1-1 record with a one-point loss to the Cincinnati Bengals and six-point win over the Buffalo Bills.
Then, everything exploded in a 24-3 Week 3 road defeat at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs, with Fitzpatrick becoming the first player since quarterback/punter Tom Tupa in 1989 to throw six interceptions without a single touchdown pass in a regular-season game.
It appeared the poor outing might have been an aberration when Fitzpatrick led the Jets on a field-goal drive to start Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks, but he ultimately finished with just one touchdown and three interceptions in a 27-17 loss that felt much worse than the final score.
Adding insult to injury, Fitzpatrick is the first Jets quarterback since Frank Reich in 1996 to record back-to-back games with three interceptions, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Now comes a tough Week 5 road matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers, potentially setting Fitzpatrick up for another three-pick outing in what essentially amounts to a must-win game for Gang Green.
