Fitzpatrick Records Ugly Stat Line Last Seen in 1989
New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick turned in a Week 3 performance he would like to forget, becoming the first player since punter/quarterback Tom Tupa in 1989 (for the Phoenix Cardinals) to throw six interceptions without a single passing touchdown in a regular-season NFL game, per Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN Stats & Info).
The 33-year-old quarterback completed 20 of his 44 pass attempts for only 188 yards in a 24-3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, failing to engineer even a single touchdown drive, though he did have one of his picks returned for a score by the opposition.
The six interceptions also tied a franchise record, which Joe Namath did on three separate occasions, per ESPN Stats & Info.
With running back Bilal Powell and wide receiver Jalin Marshall further adding to the issues by losing a fumble apiece, the Jets turned the ball over eight times in a game for the first time since 1976, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Things don't figure to get much easier for the Jets in Week 4, heading back home to face a nasty Seattle Seahawks defense that has only allowed 37 points through the first three weeks of the season.
If the Jets can't pull off a win, they'll be sitting at 1-3 with road dates waiting against the Pittsburgh Steelers (Week 5) and then Arizona Cardinals (Week 6).
