NFL Picks Week 4: Latest Odds, Prop Bets, Over-Under Lines and Predictions
Five teams remain undefeated and four are still searching for their first victory heading into the fourth week of NFL action. It's been a topsy-turvy start to the campaign, which wasn't entirely unexpected given the lack of dominant teams coming into 2016.
The New England Patriots are a constant presence atop the standings, but there were major question marks around the likes of the fellow unbeaten Philadelphia Eagles and Denver Broncos. On the flip side, expected contenders such as the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals are both 1-2.
Ultimately, three games is never enough to make any definitive judgments, but that's even more true this year with plenty of time for teams to emerge as contenders from the muddled middle. With that in mind, let's take a closer look at Week 4.

Best Bets
Odds: New York Giants (+4)
The Minnesota Vikings are turning a lot of heads by continuing to win without Teddy Bridgewater, Adrian Peterson and Matt Kalil. While that series of injuries figured to decimate the offense, the defense has stepped up in a major way to make up the difference, taking a lot of pressure off quarterback Sam Bradford.
Now the question is whether the success is sustainable. Facing the high-powered Giants offense should go a long way in providing an answer. Eli Manning is coming off back-to-back 350-yard passing games to help New York post the sixth-most yards through three weeks.
The Giants' quarterback did struggle in the team's Week 3 loss to the Washington Redskins, tossing a pair of fourth-quarter interceptions. But he's focused on putting together a strong rebound performance against Minnesota, per Bob Glauber of Newsday.
"It's going to ruin my night, maybe, but I'll be ready tomorrow and bounce back," Manning said Sunday. "We have a long season, we're doing a lot of good things, making plays. I'll learn from it and get better."
While the Vikings have exceeded most outside expectations so far, don't be surprised if this game calms the hype, at least for a short time. It's just hard to imagine Minnesota could suffer so many key injuries without a couple of setbacks along the way. The Giants win in a minor upset.
Over-Under: Atlanta Falcons/Carolina Panthers (Over 46)
The Falcons and Panthers both rank inside the top five in offensive yardage through three weeks. Atlanta actually leads the league in both yards (448) and points (34.7) per game thanks to a more well-rounded attack than in years past.
Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman have formed a strong one-two backfield punch to relieve some of the burden on quarterback Matt Ryan, who was asked to do too much in recent years. Andrew Hirsh of the Falcons' official website commented on the balance:
"The Falcons offense is spreading the ball around and getting both RBs involved: The recipe for success thus far in 2016.
— Andrew Hirsh (@andrewhirsh) September 27, 2016"
Meanwhile, the typically strong Panthers defense has given up at least 21 points in every game so far this season. That's happened despite facing a mundane group of quarterbacks, featuring Trevor Siemian, Blaine Gabbert and the aforementioned Bradford.
Add in a Carolina offense with its fair share of big-play weapons going against Atlanta's 30th-ranked defense, and the recipe is in place for a shootout. Both teams should be around 30 points, which would push the game comfortably over the line.
Super Bowl: New England Patriots (7-1)
The Eagles are surely going to garner a lot of attention this week, which will likely cause their current 75-1 odds to fall quickly. While rookie signal-caller Carson Wentz has made a seamless transition to the NFL and the defense leads the league in points allowed, it's far too soon to start thinking Super Bowl for Philly.
Meanwhile, the Patriots are a boring selection as the listed favorite. Yet, their ability to keep winning without Tom Brady under center and while dealing with a multitude of high-profile injuries shows why they are still the best choice on the futures market.
Bill Belichick is the best coach in American sports at putting his players in a position to maximize their chance of success based on their talent level. San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is the only person who even comes close. And that's why those two franchises are models for success.
In addition, when it comes to thinking about Super Bowl picks, merely making the playoffs is an essential factor. Bleacher Report's Ian Kenyon noted the Pats are already in fine shape there:
Brady is going to rejoin a roster in Week 5 that's already playing championship-caliber football at most positions. It will take a couple of weeks for him to get back in a rhythm, but by the time the playoffs roll around New England should be a well-oiled machine that makes 7-1 odds seem like great value.
