Aaron Dobson Released by Lions: Latest Details, Comments and Reaction

Rob GoldbergSep 24, 2016

Aaron Dobson's career with the Detroit Lions did not last long.

The 25-year-old receiver signed with the organization Tuesday to provide depth at the position. On Saturday, the team waived Dobson after just four days.

Dobson spent his first three seasons with the New England Patriots, totaling 53 catches for 698 yards and four touchdowns.

The former second-round pick had a promising rookie year in 2013, finishing with 37 catches for 519 yards in just 12 games. He started nine games that season and ended up as the fourth option in the passing attack behind Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola and Rob Gronkowski (who played only seven games).

Unfortunately, he was never able to build on that success and caught just 16 balls the next two years. The Patriots released him at the end of the preseason.

He is now once again a free agent, although Adam Caplan of ESPN noted he has received interest from around the league in recent weeks:

It might take an injury for a team to give him a chance, but he is still on the minds of general managers.

The Lions will apparently stick with Marvin Jones, Golden Tate and Anquan Boldin as their primary receivers, with Andre Roberts also providing depth.
