Marshawn Lynch Comments on Colin Kaepernick, Police Violence
Former Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch appeared on TBS' Conan on Tuesday night and spoke out in support of Colin Kaepernick's silent protest during the national anthem.
When asked what his thoughts were on Kaepernick's decision to kneel for "The Star-Spangled Banner," Lynch didn't hesitate to endorse the quarterback's actions.
"With what's going on, I'd rather see him take a knee than stand up, put his hands up and get murdered," Lynch said, per the New York Daily News' John Healy. "My take on it is, s--t, they got to start somewhere.
"I just hope people open up their eyes and see that there's really a problem going on, and something needs to be done for it to stop."
Lynch's complete response can be viewed below:
Kaepernick's protest against social injustice and inequality has grown to include more players since his initial decision to sit during the preseason.
Several players, including the Miami Dolphins' Arian Foster and Denver Broncos' Brandon Marshall, have joined Kaepernick in taking a knee during the anthem, while Philadelphia Eagles teammates Malcolm Jenkins, Steven Means and Ron Brooks were among those who raised their fists in a display of solidarity with the San Francisco 49ers signal-caller.
On Tuesday, Kaepernick revealed he has received death threats stemming from his protest, according to ESPN.com's Nick Wagoner. He went on to say:
"For me, I think one of the things that I've noticed throughout this is there's a lot of racism in this country disguised as patriotism. People want to take everything back to the flag, but that's not what we're talking about. We're talking about racial discrimination, inequalities and injustices that are happening across the nation.
