Sammy Watkins, LeSean McCoy, Marquise Goodwin Post-Week 2 Fantasy Advice

Joseph ZuckerSep 15, 2016

The Buffalo Bills fell 37-31 to the New York Jets on Thursday night, and it was a night to forget for many of their offensive stars.

Sammy Watkins and LeSean McCoy underwhelmed, with the former catching two passes and the latter totaling 90 yards. Marquise Goodwin was a bright spot, registering an 84-yard touchdown catch.

Below is a brief overview of the respective fantasy football values for the three players going forward.

Sammy Watkins

Watkins wasn't a guarantee to start Thursday, as a foot injury put his status in doubt. That helps explain in part his lackluster performance.

Fantasy owners shouldn't expect too much from the third-year wideout. He's a must-start in standard leagues, but your team could be in trouble if he's your best wide receiver.

Although quarterback Tyrod Taylor was a pleasant surprise in 2015, there's no guarantee he'll deliver similar numbers this season, and Taylor struggling would obviously impact Watkins.

The Bills were playing on a short week, which left Watkins less time to shake off his foot issues. As long as the problem doesn't continue lingering into Buffalo's clash with the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 25, he should be better in Week 3.

LeSean McCoy

It's still too early to begin panicking about McCoy, but the early returns aren't encouraging for owners still holding out hope to see the old McCoy who was a fantasy beast with the Philadelphia Eagles.

McCoy's opening-week numbers (58 rushing yards, one rushing TD, four receptions for 12 yards) weren't terrible. That touchdown helped elevate what otherwise would've been an average showing, though.

Benching McCoy isn't advisable considering his track record and the fact he'll continue to see a healthy amount of touches. His days as a surefire RB1, however, look to be ending.

Marquise Goodwin

Goodwin finished seventh in the United States team trials for the long jump ahead of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, and he put that athleticism on full display during his touchdown reception Thursday night.

The fourth-year wideout looks dangerous in the open field. The question is whether he'll get enough targets to be any sort of fantasy asset. He had 20 receptions for 349 yards and three touchdowns during his first three years.

Until Goodwin starts stringing multiple strong performances together, he's not worth much fantasy attention in standard leagues. According to WKBW's Joe Buscaglia, Bills head coach Rex Ryan announced after the game Goodwin is in the NFL concussion protocol, further clouding his overall value.
