Fantasy Football Week 16: Wednesday's Daily Fantasy Market Report
There was some actual fantasy football news on a Tuesday? Who would have thought that?
Yeah, believe it or not, we have some updates on some of the bigger-name players around the league, including San Diego Chargers running back Melvin Gordon, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones and Cleveland Browns wide receiver Terrelle Pryor.
As always, news has plenty of chances to change as the week progresses—we're still only at the middle of the week.
However, if you play the Thursday slate, this early-week news is really all you get.
Four wide receivers, two running backs and one tight end.
We have two regular-season weeks left of DFS. Let's make them count.
Browns WR Terrelle Pryor Practiced Tuesday, Will Have Offseason Surgery
1 of 7
According to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal, Pryor practiced Tuesday and "caught everything thrown to him during 30-minute portion open to media."
Ulrich also noted that Pryor will have surgery on his injured finger this offseason.
While this is good news that Pryor will play, the issue for Pryor is his quarterback play.
Since returning in Week 14, Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III has been horrible, having failed to reach 200 yards passing in either game and throwing zero touchdowns.
In Week 16, the Browns will host the Chargers, who rank ninth in Football Outsiders' DVOA against the pass and fifth in DVOA against No. 1 wide receivers.
I'm going to fade Pryor this week.
Eagles RB Darren Sproles Practiced Tuesday
2 of 7
According to Rotoworld, Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles returned to practice Tuesday after clearing the concussion protocol.
Going up against the New York Giants in Week 16, it's hard to get excited about the prospect of rostering Sproles—the Giants rank fifth in DVOA against the run and third in DVOA against pass-catching backs.
With fellow running back Ryan Mathews still in the fold, the Eagles will likely go back to using both of them, limiting their values.
In Week 9, Sproles and the Eagles took on the Giants, and New York limited Sproles to just 71 total yards on 16 touches.
Fade.
Vikings WR Adam Thielen Expects to Play in Week 16
3 of 7
According to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen is feeling fine and expects to play after suffering a neck injury in Week 15.
Over the last three games (excluding Week 15), Thielen is averaging eight targets and 80 yards receiving per game.
In Week 16, the Vikings will be on the road against the Green Bay Packers, where Thielen should see a fair amount of Packers cornerback LaDarius Gunter.
To this point, Gunter has been a top-40 cornerback in coverage, according to Pro Football Focus.
While Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford has been throwing for a fair amount of yardage, touchdowns have been hard to come by, as he's thrown two over his last four games.
On the bright side, the Vikings should trail in this game, which will force Bradford to throw.
At $4,600 on DraftKings, Thielen's price is a little steep, but it's not awful.
He's a decent GPP (guaranteed prize pool) play on PPR DFS sites, like DraftKings.
Chargers RB Melvin Gordon DNP Tuesday
4 of 7
This is not a great start for a potential Week 16 return.
According to Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Chargers running back Melvin Gordon did not practice Tuesday due to a hip injury suffered in Week 14 against the Carolina Panthers.
Remember: He's just three yards away from reaching 1,000 on the season, so you know he wants to play.
If he plays this week, roster him—the Chargers will be on the road against the awful Browns.
Steelers TE Ladarius Green in Concussion Protocol
5 of 7
This is just so unfortunate.
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com, Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Ladarius Green remains in the concussion protocol after suffering the injury in Week 15 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
While Green missed the first nine weeks of the season with an ankle injury, Fowler noted that there were reports of Green dealing with recurring headaches as the result of prior concussions.
Green should be considered doubtful at this point. If he does sit, fellow tight end Jesse James will see an uptick in snaps.
In Week 16 on Christmas Day, the Steelers host the Baltimore Ravens, who have one of the best defensive units this season.
I'm only playing the studs for the Steelers here—wide receiver Antonio Brown and running back Le'Veon Bell—and I don't feel great about that.
Falcons WR Julio Jones Limited in Practice Tuesday
6 of 7
Hallelujah!
According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones was officially limited in practice Tuesday.
Simple: If he plays, play him.
Let's move on!
Colts WR Donte Moncrief Practiced Tuesday
7 of 7
According to Mike Chappell of Fox 59, Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Donte Moncrief returned to practice Tuesday after missing the team's Week 15 contest against the Vikings.
In Week 16, Moncrief and the Colts will take on the Oakland Raiders, who rank 21st in DVOA against the pass.
Pass defense has been an obvious deficiency of the Raiders this season. However, Moncrief has a deficiency, too: He's a touchdown-dependent player.
This season, Moncrief is averaging approximately 35 yards receiving on close to four catches per game. Without a touchdown, Moncrief's value plummets.
I'd give him a shot at $5,400, but it's risky.
