Fantasy Football Week 15: Wednesday's Daily Fantasy Market Report

Richard JanvrinDec 14, 2016

With Week 15 on the horizon and just two weeks left in season-long fantasy football leagues, it's time to start thinking about whether teams will start to give players a breather and let the young bucks play.

In this slideshow, there are a couple of players in particular who could be faced with that very fate.

Tuesday was filled with fairly interesting news, but a lot of it (to be honest) didn't impact fantasy football all that much.

But hey, we have seven news items to go over, with some having more importance than others, of course.

Let's begin with Matt Forte and the New York Jets.

Jets RB Matt Forte Day-to-Day with Knee Injury

1 of 9

According to Dennis Waszak Jr. of the Associated Press (via the New Jersey Herald), New York Jets running back Matt Forte is day-to-day with a knee injury he suffered in the Jets' road win over the San Francisco 49ers.

In his absence, backup running back Bilal Powell absolutely exploded for nearly 180 total yards.

Based on the state of the Jets as an organization, I'd be hard-pressed to believe that they would rush Forte back. There's a pretty good chance he sits this week.

For Powell, he and the Jets will host a Miami Dolphins team that ranks 11th in DVOA (defense-adjusted value over average) against pass-catching backs but 22nd in DVOA against the run.

The bad news is that Powell is primarily known for his receiving ability.

If Forte misses Week 15, Powell would be a solid play on DFS sites that award points for receptions—you can do better, though.

Falcons WR Julio Jones Won't Practice Wednesday

2 of 9

Not only did he miss Week 14, but it appears that Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones will also be held out of practice on Wednesday, according to Falcons head coach Dan Quinn on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

With Jones, it's pretty simple—if he suits up, play him.

The Falcons will be up against the 49ers in Week 15.

Do they threaten you? They certainly don't threaten me.

Cowboys RB Darren McFadden Added to 53-Man Roster

Remember Kellen Moore?
Remember Kellen Moore?

I don't know about you, but I almost forgot that this guy even existed.

According to David Helman of the Dallas Cowboys' official website, the team has added running back Darren McFadden to the 53-man roster.

With this move, one could speculate that McFadden could steal a few touches a game from incumbent starting running back Ezekiel Elliott or allow the Cowboys to sit Zeke down in later weeks, but I highly doubt it.

And oh, DMC has no fantasy value. If it were possible to have negative value, he would.

Texans WR Braxton Miller Placed on IR

4 of 9

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, the Houston Texans have placed rookie wide receiver and former Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller on season-ending injured reserve.

Miller had spurts here and there throughout the season but no consistent production.

In an offense with Brock Osweiler as quarterback, it's going to be tough to find value outside of the top-tier guys. And even then, the value of those players stinks (see: Hopkins, DeAndre).

This could mean more snaps for another receiver, but it simply doesn't matter.

Bills WR Sammy Watkins Hopes to Play Next Three Weeks

5 of 9

According to Chris Brown of the Buffalo Bills' official website, wide receiver Sammy Watkins wants to play in the team's final three games even with the Bills being out of playoff contention.

For the Bills, it would make sense to rest Watkins so his foot injury isn't reaggravated.

We should know more about Watkins' playing status as the week progresses.

Outside of Watkins, the Bills seem like a disaster of a team with quarterback Tyrod Taylor's option looming and the potential firing of head coach Rex Ryan.

If Watkins does suit up, he draws the Cleveland Browns and a beatable matchup against cornerback Joe Haden. The name might be scary. The player? Not so much.

I'll be on Watkins this week if he plays. After all, he did score last week.

Lions QB Matthew Stafford Has Finger Injury; Not as Bad as 2011

6 of 9

In case you didn't know, Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford suffered a dislocated middle finger while also tearing some ligaments in the team's win over the Chicago Bears in Week 14.

However, if there is any good news, it's that Stafford claimed during an appearance on The Mitch Albom Show that this finger injury isn't as bad as the one he suffered in 2011, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

As Birkett noted, Stafford broke his finger in late October of that year.

In 2011, the Lions had a bye the week after his injury. Stafford went on to be the QB3 in season-long leagues for the remainder of the season.

While that may show that Stafford can play through pain, it doesn't tell us that he can play through pain and go on the road against the New York Giants—a team that just held the Cowboys to seven points.

I'm not playing Stafford this week. It's just way too risky.

Packers List Ty Montgomery as No. 2 RB on Depth Chart

7 of 9

According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, the Green Bay Packers have listed Ty Montgomery as their No. 2 running back on their unofficial depth chart.

Well, I'm here to tell you that this is a lie, a hoax and a sham and that it isn't fooling anyone, Mike McCarthy.

I get it—Montgomery isn't your prototypical running back, but he's the best one the Packers have.

Over the past two weeks, this "No. 2 running back" has played in 59 snaps, whereas fellow running backs Christine Michael and James Starks played in 28 and 14, respectively.

Also, Montgomery has managed three targets per game over the last two weeks.

Montgomery has a safe floor of touches, however small. And his price of less than $5,000 on DraftKings piques my interest, especially against a Chicago Bears team that ranks 14th in DVOA against the pass and 20th in DVOA against the run.

The Packers backfield is fairly crowded, but Montgomery appears to be the guy.

Cardinals Considering Benching WR Michael Floyd Following DUI

8 of 9

Uh oh.

According to Alex Marvez of Sporting News, Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians told SiriusXM NFL Radio that he is "checking CBA for disciplinary options" in regards to potential discipline for Michael Floyd.

As Marvez noted, it's sounding like Floyd could be benched in Week 15 against the New Orleans Saints.

Floyd has not had the season most were expecting with 33 receptions, 446 yards and four touchdowns.

Over his last four games, Floyd's highest single-game receiving total was 31, which came in Week 12.

If Floyd does sit, this offers a sizable uptick in value to the speedy J.J. Nelson, as he should see more targets in the passing game.

Nelson is $3,900 this week on DraftKings.

We'll follow this development as the week progresses. Stay tuned.

Trouble with Bucs RB Doug Martin?

9 of 9

Since coming back in Week 10 from a hamstring injury, Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin has been incredibly ineffective, averaging just 2.8 yards per carry.

As a result, many are calling into question Martin's health, insisting that is what could be hampering his production.

However, according to Roy Cummings of Florida Football Insiders, Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter insisted there is nothing wrong with Martin, saying things such as "Doug has been running hard" and "What we’ve got to do is give him more lanes."

After offensive coordinator Todd Monken told reporters that fellow running back Jacquizz Rodgers would see extra work in Week 14, Martin out-snapped him 44 to seven. In fact, other than Martin, only Charles Sims reached double-digit snaps (15).

For now, I'm staying away from Martin. He's getting the work, but he's touchdown-dependent right now.
