Fantasy Football Week 13: Wednesday's Daily Fantasy Market Report

Richard JanvrinNov 30, 2016

Week 13 of the fantasy football season is upon us, and it's time to start putting together the groundwork for our DFS lineups.

After games and as the week goes on, news breaks, and these things definitely alter our plans and sometimes open up potential value on the respective slate.

There was one report in specific that is quite interesting, and it involves a wide receiver's feelings regarding his role—spoiler alert.

Without further ado, let's get to work.

Cowboys Owner/GM Jerry Jones: No Plans to Reduce Zeke's Workload

1 of 7

Now sitting at 10-1, the Dallas Cowboys are completely destroying the league and appear to have as good a shot as any to make the Super Bowl this season.

Considering their success, there was some fantasy concern down the stretch: What will happen to running back Ezekiel Elliott?

According to Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, no need to panic—Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones was on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday and said there are no plans to reduce Zeke's workload.

If you played on the Monday/Thursday DFS slate, you definitely needed to roster Zeke. I'm not sure you can make a complete team without him.

Fire up Zeke every week.

Vikings WR Stefon Diggs Practiced Tuesday on Limited Basis

2 of 7

Right up until the Thanksgiving game featuring the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions, it was unclear whether or not Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs would play.

Well, he didn't.

With the team playing in back-to-back Thursday games and set to take on the Cowboys this Thursday, it wasn't the normal extra time for players to get healthy again.

However, Diggs should suit up this week.

According to Matt Vensel of the Star Tribune, Diggs practiced Tuesday on a limited basis. This was the second day in a row the star receiver practiced.

It looks like all systems go. Diggs should see plenty of targets to warrant starting. This diminishes the values of fellow wide receivers Adam Thielen and Cordarrelle Patterson quite a bit.

Steelers TE Ladarius Green to See More Work?

3 of 7

According to Dale Lolley of the Observer-Reporter, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said that tight end Ladarius Green should see more reps moving forward.

This is good news for a tight end the fantasy world was excited about heading into 2016.

Returning in Week 10, Green has seen four, one and three targets while playing in 12, eight and 14 snaps from Weeks 10-12, respectively.

Let's be honest: The reps can really only go up from here. During the games he's been back, fellow tight end Jesse James has dominated the snaps from the tight end position, outsnapping Green 161-34. Could Green supplant James altogether? Wouldn't surprise me.

One of my favorite things to do in DFS is punt tight end if I can—there's always so much value at the bottom portion of the pool. In Week 13, Green is just $2,800 on DraftKings, so that might be a spot to look at.

The Steelers will take on the New York Giants at home this week, and the Steelers' implied team total is just under 28 points as they are a six-point home favorite. Clearly, Vegas expects some scoring here.

Also of note, the Giants are 23rd in DVOA against tight ends, so that is definitely a weakness.

If Green plays the necessary snaps, he could be third in the Steelers' passing pecking order behind wide receiver Antonio Brown and running back Le'Veon Bell.

Eagles RB Ryan Mathews DTD with Knee Injury

4 of 7

After missing the team's Week 12 matchup on Monday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers, Philadelphia Eagles running back Ryan Mathews remains day-to-day with his MCL injury, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

During his absence in Week 12, fellow running back Wendell Smallwood worked as the lead back, accumulating only 10 touches for 47 yards, but veteran running back Darren Sproles outsnapped him 31-22. Also, Sproles saw six targets in the passing game and caught five of them.

The Packers dominated the Eagles, so the Philadelphia running game was really never able to develop.

In Week 13, the Eagles will be on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals, who rank 22nd in DVOA against the run and 15th against pass-catching backs.

If Mathews were to suit up, the only somewhat-reliable back is Sproles because of his contributions in the passing game, but I don't feel great about it.

If Mathews sits, you can give Smallwood another shot since this game should have the Eagles leading. It's hard to trust this backfield at the moment.

Eagles WR Jordan Matthews Not Expected to Miss Time

5 of 7

After leaving Monday night's game early with an ankle injury, Eagles wide receiver Jordan Matthews is not expected to miss Week 13, but he does have a right ankle sprain, according to Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com.

As mentioned in the previous slide with fellow Eagles player Ryan Mathews, the Eagles take on the Bengals this week.

Before his injury, Matthews saw four targets and caught all four for 47 yards, playing in just 24 snaps.

Meanwhile, fellow wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham took advantage of Matthews' absence, playing in 48 snaps and seeing seven targets while catching six of them for 82 yards.

Surprisingly, the Bengals do a lot better against opposing teams' No. 1 wide receivers as opposed to their second options, ranking 11th in DVOA against the WR1s and 20th against the WR2s.

While it's kind of all speculation as to how the receiver depth charts work out, let's assume Matthews is the WR1 with DGB as the WR2 should fellow wide receiver Nelson Agholor sit out again.

Worth mentioning: Should Matthews see even the slightest reduction in snaps due to his injury, that helps DGB out all the more.

The price difference between J-Matt and DGB on DraftKings is $2,700—Matthews is at $5,700; DGB at $3,000—so DGB allows for more roster flexibility, but if Matthews has no restrictions, he'll see a large number of targets his way.

Report: Saints WR Brandin Cooks Frustrated with Role

6 of 7

In the wake of not being targeted in the New Orleans Saints' 49-21 win over the Los Angeles Rams, there is one unhappy Saints receiver.

According to Mike Triplett of ESPN.com, that wide receiver is Brandin Cooks.

This season, fellow wide receiver Michael Thomas has outsnapped (621-608) and out-targeted (82-71) Cooks.

This is a perfect time to go back to Cooks in DFS.

There will be some players who will shy away from Cooks following a zero-target outing and this report on his frustration.

Look, the Saints host the Detroit Lions this week, and they absolutely stink against the pass, ranking 32nd in DVOA against the pass and 31st overall.

At $6,400 on DraftKings, I'll definitely target Cooks this week. Quarterback Drew Brees wants to keep him happy after all.

Chargers WR Tyrell Williams Has Labrum Injury

7 of 7

A darling breakout wide receiver this season is now dealing with a shoulder injury.

According to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune, San Diego Chargers wide receiver Tyrell Williams has a labrum injury, but he isn't expected to miss any time.

While Williams isn't expected to miss time, the labrum is in the shoulder, which has to do with the arm, which has to do with the hands, which catches footballs.

You see what I'm getting at?

Williams' catch radius could be limited due to the pain of the injury, but it's probably best to wait and see if anything changes in his game as a result of the injury. Williams has been productive this year, so it should be apparent if anything with Williams changes following this news.

The Chargers take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week, and Williams is $6,100 on DraftKings. If you make multiple lineups, Williams isn't a terrible option, but look at other options first.
