Fantasy Football Week 6: Wednesday's Daily Fantasy Market Report

Richard JanvrinOct 12, 2016

These daily fantasy football market reports are incredibly fun.

That's because we get to see teams evolve on a weekly basis and witness the impact of the changes they go through. For example, this week, there have been quite a few headlines, most notably surrounding the San Francisco 49ers' quarterback change.

In total, we have four quarterbacks, one wide receiver, one running back and one cornerback—yes, a cornerback—to address, along with the ramifications of the latest news regarding them.

To kick this thing off, we'll dive into the latest on the 49ers and their "new" quarterback.

49ers to Start QB Colin Kaepernick

1 of 7

Well it's about time.

After a 1-4 start with a quarterback who ranks 30th in the NFL in completion percentage and has more interceptions than touchdowns, the San Francisco 49ers are finally starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick ($5,000 DraftKings; $6,400 FanDuel) and sitting Blaine Gabbert, according to Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group.

Kaepernick has been in the news for his protests rather than his play this season, but regardless of your opinion on that, the 49ers' potentially game-changing shake-up at quarterback warrants some attention in daily fantasy.

Unfortunately, Kaepernick is in for a pretty tough 2016 debut, as his first matchup is against the Buffalo Bills on the road in Week 6.

The last time we saw Kaepernick play a full regular-season game was Week 8 of the 2015 season, when he tossed just 162 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions against the then-St. Louis Rams.

It's hard to say what fans should expect from Kaepernick. It would be wise to take a wait-and-see approach, although his rushing ability coupled with head coach Chip Kelly is somewhat appealing in guaranteed prize pools.

Rams CB Trumaine Johnson Has a High-Ankle Sprain

2 of 7

A defensive player has finally made an appearance in a market report.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Los Angeles Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson is dealing with a high-ankle sprain that will sideline him for "a few weeks."

This is a big-time injury for the Rams, as they're set to take on the Detroit Lions and attempt to defend a passing attack led by quarterback Matthew Stafford.

More importantly, though, the Lions have the leading receiver in the NFL in Marvin Jones ($7,200 DraftKings; $7,700 FanDuel), and Johnson would probably have shadowed him.

This should give Jones a healthy little boost, but because of the injury, expect other fantasy managers to target Jones as well. That should make him a little less valuable in the guaranteed-prize-pool landscape.

Nonetheless, Jones is a player you should look to get in your lineups this week.

Browns 'Hopeful' QB Cody Kessler Can Play

3 of 7

After quarterback Cody Kessler got crushed in the Cleveland Browns' Week 5 loss to the New England Patriots and suffered a game-ending injury, the Browns are hoping they can get their latest starter back for Week 6 against the Tennessee Titans, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Plain Dealer.

So far this season, the Browns have already lost quarterbacks Robert Griffin III, Josh McCown and Charlie Whitehurst. Losing Kessler for Week 6 would leave the Browns with the newly promoted rookie Kevin Hogan and Terrelle Pryor ($6,100 DraftKings; $7,000 FanDuel).

Pryor hasn't played under center regularly since he was with the Oakland Raiders in 2013, so it would be interesting to see him at his old position. However, he'd be face a tough matchup in the Titans, as their staunch defense is limiting opposing quarterbacks to 222.4 passing yards per game.

In this game, you should dial up running back Isaiah Crowell ($4,600 DraftKings; $6,500 FanDuel) and Pryor.

Broncos QB Trevor Siemian Expects to Start Thursday

4 of 7

After losing their first game of the season in Week 5 to the Atlanta Falcons, the Denver Broncos could have starting quarterback Trevor Siemian back, according to Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post.

With Siemian, Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders ($7,000 DraftKings; $6,800 FanDuel) had back-to-back 13-target games in Weeks 3 and 4.

On Thursday, the Broncos will take on the gutted San Diego Chargers, one of the worst defenses in football. The Chargers will also be missing star cornerback Jason Verrett.

Sanders, wide receiver Demaryius Thomas ($6,800 DraftKings; $7,300 FanDuel) and running back C.J. Anderson ($7,200 DraftKings; $7,500 FanDuel) should do well this week if Siemian is back at the helm.

Lions Sign RB Justin Forsett

5 of 7

Given the injuries to incumbent running backs Dwayne Washington and Ameer Abdullah, the Detroit Lions needed to make a move at the position.

Who better than a veteran castoff from the Baltimore Ravens?

That's right, the Lions signed Justin Forsett, according to his Twitter account.

Given the quick turnaround, he probably won't be a major contributor in Week 6. He should see some action, though.

With that said, he's unlikely to take a lot of work away from running back Theo Riddick ($5,300 DraftKings; $6,600 FanDuel).

Forsett could see a decent amount of work moving forward, given the injuries, but Week 6 isn't the ideal week.

This move slightly downgrades Riddick, but not by much.

Cowboys WR Dez Bryant Out?

6 of 7

For the third straight week, it's not looking good for Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant, according to Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News.

Of course, Bryant's dealing with a hairline fracture in his knee, so his extended absence isn't surprising.

The Cowboys have a bye in Week 7, so we should expect him back in Week 8, along with quarterback Tony Romo—which is a storyline in and of itself.

Over the past two weeks without Bryant, the leading receiver for the Cowboys has been Terrance Williams ($3,800 DraftKings; 5,600 FanDuel), while tight end Jason Witten ($4,200 DraftKings; $5,600 FanDuel) has seen the most targets

With their modest price tags, both of these guys, along with fellow wide receivers Brice Butler ($3,500 DraftKings; $5,600 FanDuel) and Cole Beasley ($4,400 DraftKings; $5,900 FanDuel) make for interesting plays this week against the Green Bay Packers.

After all, the Packers give up a league-low 42.8 rushing yards per game, so we could see Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott throw a ton.

Cardinals QB Carson Palmer Cleared to Play

7 of 7

According to Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer ($6,000 DraftKings; $7,700 FanDuel) has been cleared from the concussion protocol and will play in Week 6 against the New York Jets.

After starting quarterback Drew Stanton in Week 5, the Cardinals must be happy to to see Palmer coming back, despite his struggles this season.

Although Stanton was able to lead the Cardinals to a win, he only completed 11 of his 28 passes. Of course, Palmer has had his own struggles this season, ranking 29th overall among quarterbacks this season, according to Pro Football Focus.

The good news is that Palmer will face a New York Jets secondary that gives up the second-most passing yards per game in the NFL.

Expect a Palmer bounce-back. The time off may have done him some good.

Watch out for the Cardinals offense this week.
