NFL Draft 2016 Results: Full List of Selections and Grades from Round 1
If one word could describe the first round of the 2016 NFL draft, it would be shocking.
Thursday night's events wasted no time getting downright strange: Just before the Los Angeles Rams went on the clock to open the night, a video (since deleted) was tweeted out from Laremy Tunsil's Twitter account portraying the offensive lineman smoking marijuana with a gas mask.
Tunsil claimed the video was from "years ago," but he still experienced a fall, finally landing with the Miami Dolphins at No. 13.

1 Prospect Each Team Must Avoid in 2026 NFL Draft

Blind Resume Mock Draft 🔢
Meanwhile, UCLA linebacker Myles Jack fell completely out of the first round following details emerging in the week leading up to the draft about his knee injury.
In fact, plenty of projected first-round players still remain on the board for Day 2, including defensive tackles A'Shawn Robinson and Jarran Reed, and inside linebacker Reggie Ragland.
You can find the full list of selections below, as well as grades and analysis for every pick of Round 1.
Full Selections
Grades
| Los Angeles Rams | A | The Rams got their guy in Cal QB Jared Goff, but they still had to give up a lot of draft capital to get there. |
| Philadelphia Eagles | A- | The Eagles are getting a QB with huge upside in Carson Wentz, but they have a lot of money invested at the position and gave up five draft picks, including three in 2016, to land him. |
| San Diego Chargers | B+ | Surprise! The Chargers go with a pass-rusher, a big need, in Joey Bosa. However, can he be optimized in a 3-4 defensive front, or would he have been a better fit as a 4-3 DE? |
| Dallas Cowboys | C | Dallas GM Jerry Jones clearly wanted RB Ezekiel Elliott all along, but how does a team with a need in the secondary leave Jalen Ramsey on the board? |
| Jacksonville Jaguars | A+ | This perfect grade isn't so much for anything Jacksonville did to land the best player in the draft in Jalen Ramsey at No. 5, but it saw its opportunity and jumped at it. |
| Baltimore Ravens | A- | Offensive line was one of Baltimore's biggest needs heading into the draft, and the Ravens clearly decided that Ronnie Stanley was the top OT in this class. |
| San Francisco 49ers | A- | Chip Kelly likes his Oregon players, and it makes sense that he would target DT DeForest Buckner. But the 49ers really need O-line help; however, Laremy Tunsil's off-field concerns are a red flag, and the 49ers were clearly concerned. |
| Tennessee Titans | B+ | The Titans traded back into the top 10 to land their offensive lineman and thereby give Marcus Mariota the protection he needs. But it was Jack Conklin, not Laremy Tunsil, who would be a better LT. |
| Chicago Bears | A- | The Bears knew who they wanted with Leonard Floyd and felt they needed to jump the New York Giants to take him. Chicago needed an edge defender to help complete its transition to Vic Fangio's 3-4 defense. |
| New York Giants | C+ | The New York Giants, a team that really needed an offensive lineman and a linebacker, were so concerned about Laremy Tunsil and Myles Jack that they reached for cornerback Eli Apple. |
| Tampa Bay Buccaneers | A+ | Tampa Bay moves back, takes the player it wanted all along in Vernon Hargreaves, and gets an extra pick out of it. It doesn't get better than that. |
| New Orleans Saints | A- | New Orleans needed a defensive tackle, and it took the highest one on its draft board. |
| Miami Dolphins | B+ | The Dolphins ended Laremy Tunsil's free fall after a video surfaced of him smoking marijuana with a gas mask just before the start of the draft. Miami had a lot of needs, but it got a top-five talent at No. 13. |
| Oakland Raiders | B+ | Teams all have their own player rankings, but the general consensus was that safety Karl Joseph would not be taken in the top 15. Good fit for Oakland but a bit of a reach. |
| Cleveland Browns | A- | The Browns made Corey Coleman the first receiver taken off the board. But the question remains: Who will throw to him? |
| Detroit Lions | B | The Lions needed offensive line help and took the best tackle on their board in Taylor Decker. |
| Atlanta Falcons | C+ | Everyone thought the Falcons were all in on Darron Lee, but it appears the Falcons think they can solve their problems in the middle with hybrid player/box safety Keanu Neal. |
| Indianapolis Colts | A | Center Ryan Kelly is a no-brainer for the Colts. He can play in the middle or slide over to guard. Most importantly, he can protect Andrew Luck. |
| Buffalo Bills | A- | The Bills got the kind of player you need to compete in the AFC East in pass-rusher Shaq Lawson. |
| New York Jets | B+ | The Jets need a quarterback but got better value by going with Darron Lee at No. 20 than with Paxton Lynch. |
| Houston Texans | B | In one of the least surprising picks of the first round, the Texans moved up one spot and got the run on wide receivers going with Will Fuller. But was he really better than the other wideouts on the board? |
| Washington | A | The Texans clearly believed that Will Fuller was worth jumping Washington for, but Washington may have gotten the better player in Josh Doctson and an extra pick to boot. |
| Minnesota Vikings | B+ | Minnesota is optimistic about Laquon Treadwell's potential as he gets further removed from his Achilles injury, and he gives Teddy Bridgewater another weapon. |
| Cincinnati Bengals | B+ | The wide receiver position was scant when the Bengals heard their number called, but they got a solid defensive back in William Jackson III. |
| Pittsburgh Steelers | C+ | The Steelers desperately needed a cornerback and still managed to leave Round 1 with a starting-caliber one in Artie Burns. However, this was a reach fueled by need, and Burns isn't a great fit for Pittsburgh's zone scheme. |
| Denver Broncos | B | The Broncos desperately needed a quarterback, and they only had to move up five spots to get Paxton Lynch. |
| Green Bay Packers | B | The Packers had a plethora of defensive linemen from which to choose, but DT Kenny Clark might have been available early in the second. Still, they upgraded their run defense. |
| San Francisco 49ers | C+ | The 49ers clearly needed help on the offensive line, but they gave up picks to target Joshua Garnett a little high. |
| Arizona Cardinals | B | Robert Nkemdiche comes with red flags, but there's no denying the Cardinals got a talented player to upgrade their defense. |
| Carolina Panthers | B | The Panthers snagged DT Vernon Butler at the end of the first round and enhanced their already-strong front seven. |
| Seattle Seahawks | B- | Seattle moved down to the end of the first round and still landed tackle Germain Ifedi to satisfy its biggest need. However, Ifedi needs to improve in pass blocking. |
Breaking Down Highest Grades
Jacksonville Jaguars, DB Jalen Ramsey
There was a strong consensus ahead of the draft that defensive back Jalen Ramsey was the most talented player in the class, and all the Jacksonville Jaguars had to do was sit back and wait for him to fall into their laps at No. 5 overall.
Per Jaguars.com's John Oehser, it was an "easy choice" for general manager David Caldwell.
Ramsey offers a lot to teams looking to upgrade their secondaries; as he described himself during the NFL Network broadcast, he's "a cornerback who can play safety."
Caldwell confirmed that Jacksonville will start Ramsey out at corner, per Oehser. He falls right into place alongside Davon House, whom the Jaguars acquired in free agency in 2015.
Even before adding Ramsey, however, the Jaguars were deep at corner, if missing star power. It's going to mean a big step up for the defense in 2016.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers, CB Vernon Hargreaves
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers confirmed that Florida Gator Vernon Hargreaves will be staying in his home state when they selected him with the No. 11 overall pick.
Hargreaves was the player most assumed Tampa Bay would target with its original selection at No. 9, but the Buccaneers managed to trade back two spots and still land their guy.
There's just no better possible outcome in the draft.
"Of course, it doesn't get better than this, being drafted by your home team," Hargreaves said on Thursday, per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. "I live 40 minutes from the facilities, and I'm able to see my mom when I want to now. It's great."
The timing couldn't be better for the Bucs, who were desperate to address their secondary this offseason. Per Stroud, opposing quarterbacks completed 70 percent of their passes and threw 31 touchdown passes in 2015.
Now, Hargreaves, one of the best cover corners in this draft class, should be able to do something about that.
Indianapolis Colts, C Ryan Kelly
First, there was Peyton Manning and Jeff Saturday.
And now, there will be Andrew Luck and Ryan Kelly.
On Thursday, with pick No. 18, the Colts drafted Alabama's Ryan Kelly, who could very well become Luck's center for the next decade—should everything go as planned.
Bleacher Report's Matt Miller had some extremely high praise for the former Crimson Tide center:
Per Gregg Doyel of the Indianapolis Star, Kelly committed one penalty and allowed just four quarterback pressures throughout the entire 2015 season.
The Colts landed a very important cornerstone of their franchise in Round 1.
