Grading the Best Style of the 2016 NFL Draft

Nick DimengoApr 28, 2016

The 2016 NFL draft is finally here, ending months of scouting reports, players' stock mysteriously dropping and the speculation about who the next NFL stars might be.

And while football fans are stoked about finding out the newest member of their favorite team, the players who are impatiently waiting to hear their name called in the green room are sweating in their luxury suits, anxiously hoping they don't fall too far down the draft board.

I give a grade to the gear—from personalized suits to shoes, watches and the occasional entourage—that every first-round NFL draft pick is wearing tonight, updating as we see every style.

3:35 a.m. EST—Miami Hurricanes' Artie Burns Gets Iced Out

He might not be a top prospect in this year's NFL draft, but former Miami Hurricanes wideout Artie Burns sure does spend like he's going to have millions in the bank.

That's because Burns went on a serious shopping spree, with TMZ Sports reporting that he dropped a cool $41,000 on gold and diamond jewelry to prepare his outfit for the draft—and Artie's not even going to be in the green room!

2:55 p.m. EST—Former Clemson Tiger Jayron Kearse Has His NFL Draft Hats Ready

While the first name announced at the NFL draft isn't for another five-plus hours, that doesn't mean the fashion isn't already starting. Take a look at what the draft picks will be wearing once they hop on stage to shake commissioner Roger Goodell's hand.

Former Clemson Tigers defensive back Jayron Kearse shared the look on social media.

Grade: B+

5:49 p.m. EST —Former Ohio State Buckeyes Running Back Ezekiel Elliott Rocks The Crop Top

There have been plenty of legendary draft-day suits in both the NFL and NBA, but, wow, Ezekiel Elliott's has to take the cake.

Going with his midriff in full sight—as he did during his OSU days—Zeke gets Hall of Fame cred for the fashion choice. Dude has serious swag.

Grade: A

6:03 p.m. EST—Robert Nkemdiche Goes With The All-Black Look

There's a bunch of uncertainty as to where former Ole Miss defender Robert Nkemdiche might go in this draft, with some thinking he could be selected anywhere from the top 10 to late first round.

One thing's for sure, though—Nkemdiche has the confidence and style of a future superstar with the all-black suit he showed up in. Johnny Cash would be proud, Robert.

Grade: B

6:10 p.m. EST—Joey Bosa Cleans Up Nicely

Former Ohio State Buckeyes defender Joey Bosa is being compared to J.J. Watt on the field, but the incoming rook looks like he might have a modeling career in the near future after showing up with a new hairdo.

Ditching the long locks that many knew him for having, Bosa gets extra props for repping his former Buckeyes' colors, too.

6:11 p.m. EST—Jarran Reed Is So Fresh And So Clean, Clean

The behemoth defensive tackle from the University of Alabama looks good with his mom, but, c'mon man, how on earth are you going to be rocking the LSU Tigers colors during the NFL draft?

While Reed gets props for cleaning up nicely, he loses points because, had you not known he went to Bama, one may have thought he was part of the rival Tigers.

Grade: C

6:18 p.m. EST—Baylor Bears' Corey Coleman's Having Some Fun

In terms of fashion, it's tough to get a great read on former Baylor Bears wideout Corey Coleman on draft night. That doesn't mean he doesn't get a thumbs up for his tie game, though.

Coleman goes with some color to complement his traditional suit. Plus, that pocket square is a nice added touch.

Grade: B

6:23 p.m. EST—Mississippi State's Chris Jones Proves Opposites Work Well

Rather than just showing up wearing an all-black suit that's been done a million times before, former Mississippi State player Chris Jones added a little bit of color to his wardrobe, going with the red trim on top of the sport coat.

I'm a fan of the matching bow tie, too. It's subtle and elegant, so good work.

Grade: B

6:36 p.m. EST—Laremy Tunsil Dresses Sharp With Blade-Like Slip-On Shoes

The NFL draft might be the most important day in every one of these players' lives to this point, but don't tell expected top-five pick Laremy Tunsil, who came in straight ballin' in some unique slip-on shoes.

Oh, and if you didn't notice the blade-like design, than you need to get some glasses because that's the best part about these things!

Grade: B-

6:45 p.m. EST—Shaq Lawson Looks Like A Luxury Sports Car

Clemson Tigers defender Shaq Lawson was one of the most dynamic players in college football last season. His outfit at the NFL draft tonight was one of the best.

Lawson showed up with a perfect suit and complementary parts like a watch, pocket square and subtle gold necklace. A total win here.

Grade: A

6:49 p.m. EST—Myles Jack Wearing Steph Currys? Yep, Sure Is

While the Tunsil showed up in some relaxed slip-ons, former UCLA linebacker Myles Jack went even more comfortable, with word coming in that he'll be wearing a custom pair of Stephen Curry 2s.

Look, if a guy is wearing a suit, the only basketball shoe that can even be thought to be worn is the Jordan 11s—as actor Jason Sudeikis showed at this year's Golden Globes—so not sure this is going to work for Jack all that well.

Grade: C-

6:51 p.m. EST—Reggie Ragland Shows Off Some Bling

Former Alabama Crimson Tide Reggie Ragland has some really big rings—and he's not afraid to show them off.

While other prospects roll in with custom suits and expensive jewelry, Ragland wanted to remind everyone that he had some serious team success while with the Tide, rocking his three national championship rings to the draft.

Brash and flashy; love it!

Grade: B+

7:09 p.m. EST—Ole Miss Wide Receiver Laquon Treadwell With The Flash

One of the best wide receivers in the draft showed up wearing some stylish threads, guys, as former Ole Miss wideout Laquon Treadwell made sure all 32 NFL teams knew he could dress himself as well as he can catch the ball.

Looking sharp, Tread!

Grade: B+

7:24 p.m. EST—A'Shawn Robinson Has Just Too Much Going On

Whoa, A'Shawn Robinson, what made you decide to go with the maroon jacket layered on top of all those other accessories?

Bow tie, vest, pocket square—I've got to stop looking; it's seriously way too much to handle.

Grade: F

7:29 p.m. EST—Straight Fire from Florida State Cornerback Jalen Ramsey

For as much flash as former Florida State Seminoles cornerback Jalen Ramsey has shown in his football career, you've got to give the kid credit for keeping things pretty traditional with his outfit for the NFL draft.

Rocking a presumably tailored suit and a vest, I think Ramsey just won the best dressed award for the night.

Grade: A+

9:20 p.m. EST—Ronnie Stanley's Jacket Looks Like Grandma's Dining Room Table Cloth

This was a bold choice, Ronnie Stanley.

I'll commend the former Notre Dame Fighting Irish star on making that decision, but, wow, the jacket's design looks like it should have a full meal on top of it. It should not be on a first-round NFL draft pick!

Next time go without the pattern, Ronnie.

Grade: D
