Chris Jones Arrested: Latest Details and Bond Info on 2016 NFL Draft Prospect

Tim DanielsMar 17, 2016

Former Mississippi State defensive lineman Chris Jones was arrested on March 17 and charged with speeding and driving with a suspended license.

Michael Bonner of the Clarion-Ledger reported Jones couldn't produce a valid driver's license when stopped for speeding that afternoon. The NFL draft prospect met the $922 bond and was released from custody.

On Tuesday, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported "the district court judge checked the box 'retire the case to the file' on a form used by the prosecutor to resolve a case based on 'mitigating circumstances.'”

Bleacher Report's Matt Miller discussed both the on-field and the off-field considerations when it comes to Jones' draft stock:

The talented defensive tackle appeared in all 13 games for the Bulldogs last season. He racked up 44 total tackles, including 7.5 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks to establish himself as one of the top prospects at the position.

Jones announced his intention to skip his senior season and enter the draft in a school release back in January, as noted by the Dispatch:

"

After discussing it with my family, I will forego my senior season at Mississippi State and enter the 2016 NFL draft. The past three years in Starkville have been unforgettable, and I am proud to be a part of the legacy that we created. I want to thank my teammates and coaches, especially coach Dan Mullen and defensive line coach David Turner, for giving me the opportunity to wear the maroon and white. As I pursue a dream of playing in the NFL, I will always be a Bulldog.

"

NFLDraftScout.com (h/t CBSSports.com) lists him as a potential second- or third-round selection. He checks in as the No. 10 prospect at one of the class' deepest positions and the No. 74 overall player.
