Fantasy Football Rankings: Week 15 Big Board
Don't mess around in the fantasy playoffs.
It's easy to overthink lineup decisions this week, especially if you are coming off a first-round bye and had extra time to worry about certain tough matchups. Sure, you're concerned about New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. taking on Carolina Panthers cornerback Josh Norman, but you're not sitting Beckham.
Timing isn't good if you have Pittsburgh Steelers wide receivers Antonio Brown and Martavis Bryant in a brutal matchup with the Denver Broncos this weekend, but you have to stick with your top players. Remember, a tough matchup goes both ways. It won't be easy for Brown and Bryant to produce like they normally do, but the Broncos will also have their hands full with one of the best offenses in the league.
Some situations are a lot easier to avoid. For instance, the Washington Redskins have a favorable matchup against the Buffalo Bills run defense this weekend, but I'm not going near Matt Jones or Alfred Morris. The Redskins can't decide who to stick with, so it’s not worth the trouble.
If you picked anyone off the waiver wire this week, it might be tough to plug him into your lineup with a lot of confidence. New Orleans Saints running back Tim Hightower is clearly the replacement for Mark Ingram, but can I really be excited about 85 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries last week? It's not like he has a great matchup against the Detroit Lions.
A waiver-wire pickup who does have a good matchup this week is Jacksonville Jaguars running back Denard Robinson. Robinson did a fine job stepping in for T.J. Yeldon last week and may have to do so again if Yeldon can't go because of a sprained knee. Robinson could be an intriguing sleeper against a shaky Atlanta Falcons run defense.
It's easy to overthink these tough decisions when your season is on the line. Just use logic and defer to the talent that got you here if you're stuck. That philosophy is a lot better than guessing on a gut instinct without strong evidence to back it up.
As always, these rankings will be updated throughout the week and right after inactives come down for the early-afternoon games Sunday.

Quarterbacks: A Great Divide
2 of 7
Better than usual
Matthew Stafford, DET
Even after an OK performance against the St. Louis Rams last week, Stafford remains a top-10 quarterback over the last month and should have no problem remaining there with a nice matchup against New Orleans on Monday night. While the Saints have been better since firing former defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, they've given up the sixth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks in the last four weeks.
Worse than usual
Ben Roethlisberger, PIT
It's not often we have to worry about Roethlisberger, but this is one of those weeks. The Steelers host the Broncos in a game that has playoff implications in both reality and fantasy. While Big Ben may have gotten you this far, expectations have to be lowered against a defense that's given up the sixth-fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks in its last four games. They Broncos have allowed just 882 passing yards and five touchdowns over that span.
Avoid
Eli Manning, NYG
Trusting Manning is never easy, even if he's coming off a 337-yard, four-touchdown performance against the Miami Dolphins in Week 14. The Panthers will provide Manning with a much tougher test, and it's not one I expect him to pass. Only the New England Patriots have given up fewer fantasy points to quarterbacks in the last four weeks. Look elsewhere for a quarterback this week.
Sleepers
Jay Cutler, CHI
Injuries have hurt the Minnesota Vikings in recent weeks, so they could be ripe for the picking with Cutler and the Chicago Bears coming to town for an NFC North showdown. Back in Week 8 in the first meeting with Minnesota, he had just 211 passing yards and a touchdown, but he did add a rushing touchdown. The Vikings defense isn't playing nearly as well this time around, as evidenced by the 20.69 fantasy points per game allowed to quarterbacks in the last four games (seventh-most).
Alex Smith, KC
I'm not a huge fan of Smith, but I recognize a beatable matchup when I see one, and that's what Smith and the Kansas City Chiefs have in Baltimore against the Ravens this week. The numbers say the Ravens are average against quarterbacks, but those are skewed by easy matchups against the Rams, the Dolphins and the Cleveland Browns. Reality hit them hard last week in the form of Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks. He threw for 292 yards and five touchdowns in the easy win. Smith has been taking more shots through the air and should continue that with success against Baltimore.

Running Backs: Back on Track
3 of 7
Better than usual
David Johnson, ARI
If you fired up Johnson with confidence against the Vikings last week, you should be doing so with even more confidence against Philadelphia this week. Over the last four weeks, the Eagles have given up the second-most fantasy points to running backs, including 556 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in addition to 27 receptions for 315 yards and three touchdowns through the air. Johnson should be busy and productive yet again.
Worse than usual
Darren McFadden, DAL
I refuse to be fooled by McFadden's Week 14 performance, which included a 50-yard run but saw him carry the ball just nine times. He's had fewer than 15 carries in each of his last three games and faces a New York Jets defense that's held running backs to just 203 rushing yards and no rushing touchdowns in the last four games.
Avoid
Isaiah Crowell, CLE
Don't chase the points. Yes, Crowell was great last week, rushing for 145 yards and a pair of touchdowns, but that came against a vulnerable San Francisco 49ers defense. In Week 15, the competition gets much stiffer when Crowell takes on Seattle, a defense that's held running backs to a total of 131 rushing yards in the last four weeks.
Sleepers
Denard Robinson, JAC
Robinson stepped in when T.J. Yeldon went down with a sprained knee in Week 14 and may have to do so in a favorable matchup against Atlanta in Week 15. In their last four games, the Falcons have allowed the third-most fantasy points, 537 rushing yards and five touchdowns to opposing running backs. It could be a plug-and-play week with Robinson as one of the top pickups off the waiver wire.
Theo Riddick, DET
If you want to reach a little deeper in PPR formats, take a look at Riddick against New Orleans on Monday night. The Saints have given up the fourth-most fantasy points to running backs over the last month, and Riddick has at least five receptions each of his last four games on 28 total targets. He's been a top-20 running back in PPR formats during that time.

Wide Receivers: Hit 'em High
4 of 7
Better than usual
Doug Baldwin/Tyler Lockett, SEA
Baldwin has been on a tear over the last month, and Lockett hasn't been far behind him, but you should have every reason to believe they can keep it up this weekend against the Browns. While the Browns have allowed the 14th-most fantasy points to wide receivers over the last month, we know they won't have top cornerback Joe Haden after he was officially placed on injured reserve due to ongoing concussion issues. There's nothing scary about this matchup.
Michael Floyd/John Brown, ARI
Even though the Arizona Cardinals wide receivers have been bunched pretty close together in terms of fantasy production, I assume most people don't have second thoughts about using Larry Fitzgerald, so I'm focusing on the bump Floyd and Brown get from this week's matchup with the Eagles. Over the last month, the Eagles have allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to wide receivers thanks to 55 receptions, 671 yards and nine touchdowns. The Cardinals should take to the air with a lot of success Sunday night in South Philadelphia.
Worse than usual
Antonio Brown/Martavis Bryant, PIT
I won't go as far as saying you should bench Brown or Bryant this weekend, but expectations have to be lower than usual when they take on the Broncos. No team has given up fewer fantasy points, receptions or yards to wide receivers in the last four weeks.
Odell Beckham Jr., NYG
Beckham is the only reliable option for the Giants to produce on a regular basis for fantasy, so I'll roll with him this weekend despite the tough matchup against the Panthers. It won't be easy for OBJ to post his usual gaudy numbers, as he'll likely see a lot of cornerback Josh Norman. Norman has kept Julio Jones and Dez Bryant in check already this season.
Avoid
Jordan Matthews, PHI
Benching Matthews is a no-brainer against the Cardinals. The only reason to consider using him is for garbage-time production, but that's dangerous to bank on during the most important time of the fantasy season. Only the Broncos have allowed fewer fantasy points to wide receivers in the last four games.
Sleepers
Ted Ginn Jr., CAR
If you played Ginn at any point this season, you're well aware of his boom-or-bust potential. He's boomed in a big way in the last two games, and there's reason to ride that hot hand this week against the Giants. They've given up the 12th-most fantasy points to wide receivers during the last month. Ginn can make a big play or two against their vulnerable secondary.

Tight Ends: Spike in Ratings
5 of 7
Better than usual
Ben Watson, NO
Watson has racked up at least eight targets in each of his last three games and should remain busy when he faces the Lions on Monday night. They've given up the seventh-most fantasy points to tight ends in the last four weeks. Watson has quietly been a solid fantasy option, and he has top-five potential this week.
Worse than usual
Greg Olsen, CAR
Even though the Giants have given up the sixth-fewest fantasy points to tight ends in the last month, that's not my concern for Olsen. What I am worried about is the knee injury that knocked him out of Week 14. Even though he expects to be active for Week 15, playing time has to be a concern for a key cog in the Carolina offense with a first-round bye already locked up.
Avoid
Jason Witten, DAL
If you haven't given up on Witten yet, I don't know what you’re waiting for. He has no upside on a bad team with a terrible quarterback in Matt Cassel. He hasn't scored since Week 1 and likely won't break that streak against the Jets on Saturday night. In the last four games, tight ends have put up the fourth-fewest fantasy points with just 16 receptions for 175 yards and no touchdowns against the Jets.
Sleepers
Heath Miller, PIT
The Broncos have one of the best defenses in the NFL, but the tight end position has been a blind spot in the last four weeks. They've given up 32 receptions, 395 yards and three touchdowns, which translates to the most fantasy points allowed to tight ends over that span. Miller posted 10 receptions for 66 yards last week and has 23 targets in his last three games. It could be another busy day for the veteran.

Defense/Special Teams: Matchup Paradise
6 of 7
Best options based on matchups
Seattle Seahawks (vs. CLE)
The Seahawks rank sixth among fantasy defenses over the last four weeks thanks to nine sacks, six interceptions and just 56 points allowed during that span. They're a weekly play no matter what the matchup, but they get a boost this week when they face the Browns. The Browns have given up the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing defenses in the last month.
Kansas City Chiefs (at BAL)
The Ravens turned to Jimmy Clausen last week because Matt Schaub (shoulder, chest) couldn't play, but it doesn't matter if it's Schaub or Clausen against the Chiefs—it's a great matchup for Kansas City either way. The Chiefs are the second-best fantasy defense over the last four games, and during that same span the Ravens are tied for the fifth-most fantasy points allowed to defenses. This is a matchup made in fantasy heaven for the Chiefs.
New York Jets (at DAL)
It's not a surprise to see the Dallas Cowboys are tied for fifth-most fantasy points allowed to opposing defenses. The Jets have been an average unit for fantasy but should be able to take advantage of this matchup Saturday night.
Houston Texans (at IND)
Life gets easier for the Texans. After facing the Patriots last week, they take on the Indianapolis Colts in Week 15. The Colts have a terrible quarterback situation and are tied with the Falcons for the second-most fantasy points allowed to defenses in the last month. They've given up 13 sacks during that time.

Kickers: If It's Not Broke...
7 of 7
Best options widely available on the waiver wire
Matt Prater, DET
Prater hasn't missed a field goal this season and should be busy Monday night when the Lions take on the Saints in New Orleans. Obviously, the indoor conditions will help Prater, but so will the matchup against the poor New Orleans defense. He's had just 17 field-goal attempts all season but should produce strong fantasy numbers for Week 15.
