Brandon Marshall Gifts Ryan Fitzpatrick Copy of 'Just Give Me the Damn Ball!'

Kyle NewportDec 15, 2015

"Just give me the damn ball."

That's pretty much the mantra of every NFL wide receiver, most notably former Pro Bowler Keyshawn Johnson. So much so, in fact, that Johnson decided to co-write a book with that title back in 1997.

Now, that book makes for the perfect Christmas present for a wideout to give his quarterback—although waiting until Dec. 25 to give it is a bit late.

On Tuesday, New York Jets receiver Brandon Marshall revealed to the media that he gave quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick a copy of Just Give Me the Damn Ball! for Christmas. The Jets' leading receiver (89 catches, 1,187 yards and 11 touchdowns) did realize, however, that he should've given his quarterback the book sooner.

"Probably could have 100 catches right now," Marshall said, per ESPN.com's Ohm Youngmisuk.

Now, before you get the wrong idea about the present, Marshall said he gave copies of the book to the rest of the receiving corps:

"

I was just waiting for the moment. I got like five of them to hand out to wide receivers and make an Instagram post, something cool. Talking about divas and all of that, I just think it is overrated and sometimes talked about too much.

"

The 31-year-old Marshall also revealed that he's interested in writing a book of his own about being a star receiver:

"

I want to write my own piece of the psyche of a No. 1 receiver or prima donnas or what we call divas. So it was just cool to kind of make fun of that, but never got a chance to do it because we had a couple of bad games [earlier in the season].

"

I wonder if he has a title picked out yet.
