Daily Fantasy Football November 3: DFS Stock Up, Stock Down
Daily fantasy owners, say hello to the wildest week so far for the DFS stock market.
Week 8 featured a laundry list of household names on the wrong end of unfortunate injuries, breakout performances, duds and more, all of which join the pot known as the stock market.
Let's stir it up. There are backups moving into starting roles, former starters waving goodbye to significant usage and other starters simply falling flat on their faces.
Within, let's review the biggest stock takeaways of November 3 as owners get to digging on the next week's lineups.
Stock Up: Tyrod Taylor, QB, Buffalo Bills ($5,300)
1 of 7
Tyrod Taylor sounds like he will be back with the Buffalo Bills this week, which gives fantasy owners another option at quarterback.
Remember, Taylor is the guy who broke onto the scene as an incredible value, posting 23 or more points in three of his five appearances before missing time with an injury.
ESPN.com's Mike Rodak provided an update on Taylor's status: "Rex Ryan says he expects Tyrod Taylor to be 100 percent for Sunday's game against Dolphins."
This is the second-lowest price on Taylor all year behind his season-opening $5,000. His stock couldn't be higher, especially going into a matchup against the Miami Dolphins, a team he torched in Week 3 for 24.28 points.
Stock Down: Chris Ivory, RB, New York Jets ($5,900)
2 of 7
New York Jets running back Chris Ivory has gone from one of the most reliable players at his position to an avoidable option.
Ivory started hot with 23 or more points in three of his first four games, but over his last two, he has mustered just 13.3 and 7.1 outings.
While Ivory insisted his hamstring was fine before rushing 15 times for 17 yards this past weekend, it's clear either something is still off or the Jets are more comfortable opening up the offense now.
Ivory has a favorable matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 9, but his stock hasn't been lower, and owners might want to look elsewhere.
Stock Up: DeAngelo Williams, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers ($5,500)
3 of 7
DeAngelo Williams of the Pittsburgh Steelers is one of the week's biggest chalk plays.
With Le'Veon Bell out for the season, per Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, Williams steps into the starting role for the Steelers and will see the majority of the carries regardless of future transactions.
The reason? Williams looked great as the starter while Bell served a suspension over the course of the first two weeks of the season, posting 17.2 and 31.2 points in those games. This past Sunday, he totaled 15 on just nine carries and caught four passes.
Such versatility and usage is hard to find at the NFL level, but it's clear owners have a cheap option for at least this weekend.
Stock Down: Dez Bryant, WR, Dallas Cowboys ($7,900)
4 of 7
A return to action doesn't necessarily translate to a rising stock.
This would be the case with Dallas Cowboys wideout Dez Bryant, who suited up for the first time since the opener this past weekend, only to catch two passes for 12 yards despite an $8,000 price tag.
Bryant takes a $100 hit in Week 9 as a result, but it's an overall situation owners may want to avoid until the Cowboys have someone other than Matt Cassel under center.
Yes, Bryant had to deal with Richard Sherman and the Seattle Seahawks in his return, but his stock needed a reality check until he gets Tony Romo throwing him the ball again.
At $7,900, there are just four receivers more expensive than Bryant this week. Translation: Owners can find much, much better value at a cheaper price.
Stock Up: Jeremy Langford, RB, Chicago Bears ($4,000)
5 of 7
Like the aforementioned Williams, Chicago Bears running back Jeremy Langford looks poised to step into a starting role after an unfortunate injury to the guy in front of him.
In this case, it's Matt Forte who suffered an injury, this one of the MCL variety, per Jay Glazerย of Fox Sports (via Mikeย Garafolo), which means he's likely out at least for Week 9.
After Forte left this past Sunday's game, it was Langford who operated as the every-down back in an identical role, rushing 12 times for 46 yards and seeing a few targets in the passing game.
Considering the San Diego Chargers rank as one of the worst teams against backs this year, Langford's stock couldn't be higher as he seems ready to get an official start.
Stock Down: Brandon LaFell, WR, New England Patriots ($3,200)
6 of 7
So much for New England Patriots wideout Brandon LaFell returning and setting the world on fire.
LaFell made a comeback in Week 7 but dropped multiple passes on the way to just 4.5 points. He turned around this past weekend with four grabs for 47 yards, good for just 8.7 points.
Perhaps more concerning is LaFell's usage. In his last outing, he fell behind Rob Gronkowski, Dion Lewis and Julian Edelman in terms of targets. He might be seeing more playing time than Danny Amendola, but even in Foxborough there are only so many chances at production to go around.
Until something changes in the pecking order, owners need to look elsewhere for a possible low-priced explosion.
Stock Up: Jacob Tamme, TE, Atlanta Falcons ($3,000)
7 of 7
It's amazing what a tight end can do in a high-octane offense when the quarterback realizes the guy's there.ย
This happened with the Atlanta Falcons over the weekend when quarterback Matt Ryan decided to get Jacob Tamme the ball with Leonard Hankerson out of action.
The result? A whopping 10 catches for 103 yards and a score on 12 targets, good for 29.3 points.
Nobody would be silly enough to suggest such output from Tamme each week, but he's a strong, pass-catching tight end who just needs chances, and he'll produce at a reliable clip. At this price, owners have to hope this past weekend was a revelation for Ryan and the staff and a sign of things to come.
