Peyton Manning Ties Brett Favre's Record for Most Wins by a QB with 186

Matt FitzgeraldNov 1, 2015

Peyton Manning may be having his worst season in a long time, but the legendary quarterback is doing enough for the Denver Broncos to win games and rank among the best teams in the NFL.

Manning's latest victory, a 29-10 win over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, puts him at 186 wins for his epic career, matching Brett Favre for the most wins by a QB in league history.

Manning was 21-of-29 for 340 yards and an interception on the night as the Broncos move to 7-0.

This is the second notable all-time mark Manning has matched Favre for in recent years. Just as Manning eclipsed his touchdown-passes record of 508 in 2014, he figures to put some distance between himself and Favre in total wins before retiring.

The Broncos have been leaning on an elite defense to grind out W's in 2015 as Manning's arm strength continues to wane. Most unusual has been his tendency for turnovers, as he's thrown 11 interceptions to only seven touchdowns on the season.

But whenever Denver has needed him to pull through, the 39-year-old signal-caller has managed to get the job done.

This current model of winning may not be sustainable into the postseason, when Manning's endurance and capacity for processing complex defenses will be put to the ultimate test. He has the chance to one-up Favre with a second Super Bowl ring, yet he may not have enough in the tank to claim the Lombardi Trophy once more.

The latest record Manning has set adds further credence to the argument some have made that he's the best regular-season QB of all time. It's more of an inevitable coronation and another notch on his belt most won't be surprised by.

What would add more to Manning's legacy, though, is if he digs deep, raises his level of play late in the year and guides the Broncos to a Super Bowl title.
