Daily Fantasy Football October 24: DFS Stock Up, Stock Down
Daily fantasy football can be a tricky game if your lineup is set too early, so it's critical to watch for last-minute updates from around the league.
Well, we've got you covered for Week 7 of the NFL season. Injury reports are constantly flowing in, and trends are easily discovered at this point of the year. The weekend's slate is slowly taking shape.
Matchups, trends, roles and injuries are key factors in the organization of the list. Use this information as a guide to piece together a DraftKings lineup.
Stock Up: Zach Mettenberger, Tennessee Titans ($5,000)
1 of 6
Zach Mettenberger will be under center for the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Marcus Mariota has been ruled out for the weekend, per Jim Wyatt of the team's official site.
With a $5,000 tag, Mettenberger is priced at the minimum for quarterbacks. Plus, the Titans are facing the No. 29 fantasy defense against the pass in the Atlanta Falcons.
Last season, the LSU Tigers product tallied at least 16 DFS points when attempting 30 passes or more. Since the Falcons offense is bound to pull away from Tennessee, Mettenberger will likely lead a pass-heavy offense during the second half.
If you trust Mettenberger enough to throw two touchdowns, he's not a terrible option.
Stock Down: Darren Sproles, Philadelphia Eagles ($3,800)
2 of 6
For a couple of weeks, Darren Sproles was a nifty plug-in to lineups as a cheap running back option who would grab a couple of passes.
Since his two-touchdown day against the New York Jets, however, Sproles has just 13 touches out of the backfield. Most surprisingly, only two of those 13 are receptions. The one-time points-per-reception monster has been reduced to a true third running back.
Plus, the emergence of DeMarco Murray—otherwise known as better blocking up front—means the Philadelphia Eagles aren't so quick to take him off the field.
Unless you're confident Sproles is going to return a punt for a touchdown, he's not a daily fantasy option until the targets start coming again.
Stock Up: Danny Woodhead, San Diego Chargers ($4,600)
3 of 6
Not only is Danny Woodhead a reliable pass-catching option, the San Diego Chargers running back has a terrific chance to end his touchdown-less streak in Week 7.
Keenan Allen, Melvin Gordon and Antonio Gates are each listed as questionable. While Allen and Gordon may end up playing, Gates in particular is truly an unknown.
According to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Gates (sprained left MCL) said he's never dealt with a knee injury before, so he's not sure how quickly he'll recover.
Woodhead, who has scored at least 12 points in five of six games, is a decent player anyway, but his role will increase if Gates is out—and if Gordon keeps fumbling.
Stock Down: Tavon Austin, St. Louis Rams ($4,500)
4 of 6
Tavon Austin might not run through the smoke this weekend.
After being listed as probable, Austin has been downgraded to questionable, per Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
It would be disappointing if the speedy St. Louis Rams receiver isn't able to dress because he's scored a touchdown in two consecutive games and has an enticing matchup against the Cleveland Browns.
Though Thomas notes Austin did return to practice on Friday after missing a couple of sessions, his status is worth monitoring as a contrarian high-upside play.
Stock Up: Antonio Brown, Pittsburgh Steelers ($7,900)
5 of 6
Following a two-touchdown performance in his first game of the season, Martavis Bryant will be a popular name in lineups. It seems like everyone is forgetting about Antonio Brown.
Now, I was among the people who immediately dropped Brown's stock when Ben Roethlisberger sustained his injuries. But Brown is now free from the curse of Michael Vick.
Landry Jones is temporarily taking over at quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Oklahoma Sooners product isn't afraid to sling the ball. It would make sense for Jones to look at, oh you know, the best receiver on the team.
Plus, the Kansas City Chiefs have the worst fantasy passing defense. An undervalued Brown has a reasonable shot at a 100-yard, two-touchdown day.
Stock Down: Albert Wilson, Kansas City Chiefs ($3,000)
6 of 6
The potential for a breakout game from Albert Wilson has yet again gone on the back burner.
Jeremy Maclin passed concussion protocol, and Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said the receiver "did a nice job" at practice on Friday, according to Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star.
Wilson, who costs just $3,000, tallied 14.7 points last week against the Minnesota Vikings and would've been the No. 1 receiver opposite the No. 24 fantasy defense in Pittsburgh.
However, the second-year wideout will be behind Maclin and tight end Travis Kelce in the pecking order. Wilson was a fun thought, but sometimes happiness doesn't even last a week.
