Daily Fantasy Football October 19: DFS Stock Up, Stock Down

David KenyonOct 19, 2015

It's never too early to begin looking at another round of daily fantasy football, especially since the Week 7 slate is growing larger in the horizon.

A few NFL players raised their proverbial stock on Sunday, but three others weren't so lucky. An unfavorable upcoming matchup, underperformance and an injury hurt the latter.

While no news is gospel at this point of the week, it's important to stay abreast of the latest headlines. Use this information as your early guide to assembling a DraftKings lineup for Week 7.

Stock Up: Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins

1 of 6

Although the new-look Miami Dolphins put together a spectacular outing on Sunday, the offense could be even better next week when it takes on the Houston Texans.

The biggest beneficiary of that success will be Ryan Tannehill, who completed 22 of 29 passes for 266 yards and two touchdowns against the Tennessee Titans. He also rushed for 14 yards, and that running ability will come in handy to evade J.J. Watt and Co.

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles, despite throwing three interceptions, still managed to tally 28.94 points on the Texans.

Considering Tannehill's sub-$6,000 price, his ceiling against a tremendously favorable opponent is worth a good look.

Stock Down: Josh McCown, Cleveland Browns

2 of 6

Josh McCown has kept the Cleveland Browns competitive, consistently putting up decent fantasy numbers in the process.

Because of an elite Denver Broncos defense testing him, though, McCown couldn't record his fourth straight 20-plus DFS point game. And the challenge doesn't get much easier in Week 7, either.

The Browns will hit the road and battle the St. Louis Rams, a defense that held Green Bay Packers superstar Aaron Rodgers to less than 20 fantasy points and limited Arizona Cardinals gunslinger Carson Palmer to one touchdown.

Consequently, McCown will likely be a contrarian play, but he's not a recommended one.

Stock Up: Chris Ivory, New York Jets

3 of 6

New York Jets running back Chris Ivory is on a roll.

Ivory gashed the Washington football team for 146 yards and a touchdown, adding three receptions for 50 yards. Sunday marked the third time in four games he registered at least 23 DFS points, racking up a season-best 31.6.

New York will battle the rival New England Patriots in Week 7, and establishing the running game should be a focal point for the Jets. The Pats allowed a six-yard average to Frank Gore of the Indianapolis Colts.

Yet Gore only received 13 carries. That shouldn't be the case for Ivory, since he's accrued at least 20 attempts during three outings.

The Jets will only help their chances to win if the offense can control the clock. As long as New York stays close, expect a heavy dose of Ivory throughout the clash.

Stock Down: Eddie Lacy, Green Bay Packers

4 of 6

The bye week probably couldn't have arrived at a better moment for Eddie Lacy.

Last Sunday, the Green Bay Packers running back totaled just 27 yards on 13 carries and nabbed one reception for eight yards. But that was against the stout Rams defense, so concern wasn't at a high level.

However, Lacy headed to the locker room with only six touches to his name after the Week 6 tilt against the San Diego Chargers. James Starks, on the other hand, had 10 carries and one reception, resulting in 117 yards and two touchdowns.

Until Lacy proves otherwise, a $6,000-plus salary will probably keep him safely off a majority of DFS radars.

Stock Up: Alshon Jeffery, Chicago Bears

5 of 6

Jay Cutler desperately needed his No. 1 target back on the field, and it didn't take long for the Chicago Bears quarterback and receiver Alshon Jeffery to connect.

Though Chicago ultimately came up short to the Detroit Lions, Jeffery racked up eight catches on 11 targets, ending with 147 yards and a touchdown. It was his first action since the season opener.

Contrary to Lacy, the bye week arrived at a disappointing moment for the duo, though perhaps not for the Bears as a whole. Cutler and Jeffery clearly didn't lose their rapport, but two straight weeks certainly would've been valuable.

Nevertheless, Jeffery should command double-digit targets each game and will be Cutler's go-to red-zone option. You can't ask for much more than that.

Stock Down: Jeremy Maclin, Kansas City Chiefs

6 of 6

Once Jamaal Charles' season ended due to an ACL tear, Jeremy Maclin's value rose the most out of any Kansas City Chiefs player.

However, Maclin encountered a setback on Sunday. The standout wide receiver exited the contest early due to a concussion, finishing with three catches for 48 yards.

According to Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star, coach Andy Reid confirmed the injury but offered nothing definitive.

So for now, Maclin cannot return to the field until he passes through concussion protocol. If he isn't cleared for a while, though, seeking a different player who is completely healthy yet costs less than Maclin's $6,400 is an advisable choice.
