Adam WellsOct 16, 2015

Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel reportedly admitted to drinking alcohol after he was pulled over by the police Oct. 12 in Ohio following a domestic dispute with his girlfriend.

According to the police report obtained by Joe Pagonakis of ABC 5 in Cleveland on Oct. 16, Manziel and Colleen Elizabeth Crowley were arguing while driving down Interstate 90 when a witness called the police after Manziel attempted to use the shoulder to pass.

Manziel was not punished by the Browns, but the NFL is looking into the incident.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Manziel is "not expected to be disciplined" for the incident with his girlfriend. The news comes on the heels of a report from ESPN's Jane McManus, who said Manziel met with the league Wednesday.

However, later in the day Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reported an NFL spokesman told her "the review has not been completed."

Tom Withers of the Associated Press reported Tuesday that the NFL spoke to the police officers involved in the traffic stop, adding the "league is looking into whether Manziel violated its personal conduct policy."

Pettine Comments on Browns' Handling of Manziel

Monday, Oct. 19

"We've dealt with it, it's not like we ignored it," Browns head coach Mike Pettine said, per Withers. "I'm not of the mind that all discipline has to be public. If you think we're turning a cheek to it and ignoring it, you'd be dead wrong."

Manziel was active for the team's Week 6 game against the Denver Broncos two days after news of the incident broke.

Manziel Comments on Incident

Friday, Oct. 16

Manziel issued a statement through Twitter regarding the dispute:

"

Colleen and I got into a dumb public argument on the way home Monday afternoon. It probably looked more interesting than it was, and I know I would stop and check if I saw a couple arguing on the side of the road. It was embarrassing but not serious and when we talked to the police and they realized everything was alright and I was sober, we went home together and everything is fine.

"We were aware of the situation," Browns general manager Ray Farmer said in a statement, per Josina Anderson of ESPN. "It is a matter that we take seriously and have expressed our concerns to Johnny directly. Those conversations will remain private and we will refrain from further comment at this time."

Details of Manziel's Traffic Stop Revealed

Friday, Oct. 16

Pagonakis provided more details that led up to the stop:

"

The witness told police the couple was arguing and Crowley attempted to exit the vehicle while they were on the road. In the report, both Manziel and Crowley admitted they were having an argument and Crowley threw a wallet out of the window.

The report stated the couple then stopped the car in an Avon neighborhood and continued arguing. That's when a second witness called police. Minutes later, police stopped Manziel's car on Nagle Road where he said both he and Crowley had been drinking in downtown Cleveland earlier that day.

"

Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland confirmed Manziel was pulled over by the police, noting the incident is said to have occurred around 6 p.m. on Oct. 12. Cabot confirmed that alcohol was involved:

According to Pagonakis, the police report noted that Crowley told officers Manziel "pushed her head into a window" and that she "wanted her cellphone because she was concerned about her safety."

The report did state that neither Manziel nor Crowley was "intoxicated to the point where they could be charged," and Crowley declined to press charges.

In February, Manziel voluntarily checked into a rehab facility so he could "figure out his value system," according to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.

Weeks earlier, Fowler and McManamon spoke to many people within the Browns organization and NFL personnel about Manziel's struggles during his rookie season.

"Those who spoke talked of a yearlong pattern that showed a lack of commitment and preparation, a failure to be ready when given a chance in his first start against Cincinnati and a continued commitment to nightlife, which affected his preparation and work while in the team facility," they noted.

Manziel left the rehab center in mid-April after 10 weeks, releasing a public statement (h/t Lindsay H. Jones of USA Today) in which he took responsibility for his actions and said he intended "to work very hard to regain everyone's trust and respect."

This latest incident involving Manziel and his girlfriend extends beyond his problems with alcohol, as there is a domestic-dispute element. The two were allowed to leave the scene after speaking to the police.
