Terrell Owens Says He'd 'Absolutely' Help the Eagles Right Now

Mike ChiariOct 10, 2015

Terrell Owens is at it again, as the 41-year-old wide receiver is campaigning for yet another one of his former teams to sign him in the form of the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to Andrew Porter of CBS Philly, T.O. appeared on 94WIP's Mike & Ike Show on Friday and expressed great confidence that he would be an asset to the 1-3 Eagles this season.

"Absolutely, yes," he said. "No question, no question about that, sir."

Owens last played a regular-season game in the NFL during the 2010 season with the Cincinnati Bengals. He caught 72 balls for 983 yards and nine touchdowns that year, but he never caught on elsewhere.

T.O. spent the 2004 and 2005 seasons in Philadelphia, where he made 124 catches for 1,963 yards and 20 touchdowns in 21 regular-season contests. His tenure was cut short, though, due to issues with quarterback Donovan McNabb.

Owens is among the nominees for the upcoming Pro Football Hall of Fame class, but he isn't yet willing to step away from the game for good. Per NFL Network on Twitter, he still has the itch to return to the gridiron:

That is clear based on the fact that he previously attempted to talk the Dallas Cowboys into signing him last month after Dez Bryant went down with an injury, according to NFL Network's Rich Eisen:

The Eagles have gotten uneven performances out of wide receivers Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor, Riley Cooper and Miles Austin so far this season, which hasn't done quarterback Sam Bradford any favors.

Owens firmly believes he can help elevate the play of Bradford and the Eagles as a whole if they give him a chance, per his interview on the Mike & Ike Show (h/t Porter):

"

You think that I shouldn't be playing right now? I definitely could be playing right now, but based on my character—yeah, people can say, "Oh he’s 41." But I'm not your average 41-year-old and [former Eagles linebacker] Ike [Reese] you can attest to that. And when I was on that football field, I felt like I was the best thing out there and it was due to how hungry I was and how dedicated I was.

"

There is no question that Owens is one of the greatest wide receivers of all time, with 153 touchdown catches to his credit, but the fact that he hasn't played in five years is certainly working against him.

On top of that, bringing in a polarizing personality like T.O. would undoubtedly create a huge media distraction, which is the last thing Eagles head coach Chip Kelly needs as he attempts to prove that the offseason changes he made were for the better.
