Jason Pierre-Paul Injury Update: Giants DE Officially Ruled Out of Season Opener
One day after New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul left for Florida without having signed his franchise tag tender, it was announced that he will not play for the G-Men in Week 1 of the 2015 NFL season.
According to the Giants' Twitter account, head coach Tom Coughlin made JPP's absence against the Dallas Cowboys official Wednesday.
The 26-year-old pass-rusher had to have his right index finger amputated after a fireworks incident on July 4. That prolonged the process of Pierre-Paul signing his tender, and a resolution did not occur in that regard Tuesday, per Ebenezer Samuel of the New York Daily News.

According to Samuel, Coughlin isn't at all worried about JPP's mindset after losing his finger. Also, Bleacher Report's Patricia Traina relayed that Pierre-Paul's hand remains Coughlin's greatest concern:
Despite the obstacles he must still overcome in terms of getting his hand right and signing a contract, Coughlin believes there is a good chance Pierre-Paul will play at some point in 2015, per Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News:
JPP is a much-needed asset for the Giants, as the two-time Pro Bowler is the centerpiece of their pass rush.
He is coming off one of the best seasons of his career, as the former South Florida superstar registered 77 tackles, 12.5 sacks and a personal-best three forced fumbles.
Without JPP in the fold for the first game, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo may have plenty of time to pick apart a suspect New York secondary. The likes of Robert Ayers and third-year man Damontre Moore will be asked to step up in his absence, but it will be impossible to replace the athleticism and pass-rushing ability Pierre-Paul brings to the table.
