Madison Bumgarner, Kris Bryant Headline MLB's 10 Most Popular Player Jerseys

If there were ever any doubt about the youth revolution taking over Major League Baseball, the recently released list of most popular jerseys should put that to rest.   

According to the MLB Communications Twitter account, San Francisco Giants ace Madison Bumgarner had the top jersey from the season's first half:

Even though players on the list like Bumgarner, Buster Posey and Clayton Kershaw have been around for years and established themselves as stars, no one in the top five is older than 28.

Kris Bryant, Bryce Harper, Mike Trout and Matt Harvey are in the beginning stage of their careers. Trout has already won an MVP award, Harper could be on his way to one in 2015, Harvey is working his way back from Tommy John surgery, and Bryant has a legitimate chance to win NL Rookie of the Year.

Interestingly, as the tweet notes, Bumgarner had never appeared on the list of best-selling jerseys before ranking No. 1 so far this year. He's finished in the top 10 of Cy Young Award voting the past two seasons, so people have known about him for a long time. 

David Ortiz, 39 years old, is the wily old veteran on the list, which is unsurprisingly dominated by three Giants. Winning three World Series titles in five years helps move a lot of jerseys, as does being the defending champions. 

Even a player like Hunter Pence, who is an outlier on this particular list of names at No. 6, makes sense simply because he was a key player for the Giants during their playoff run last October. 

Another unsurprising part of the list is seven of the top 10 best-sellers are position players. Even though pitching is ahead of hitting at this point, position players have the advantage of playing every day and being seen by more people.
