Five of Swanson's teammates at Vanderbilt were also chosen, including two more in the top 25. Last year's first overall pick, pitcher Brady Aiken, went 17th overall to the Cleveland Indians.

With all the picks in, let's take a look at who went where and how all teams involved fared.

TeamGradeNote
Arizona DiamondbacksBIn need of a big-time playmaker, Dansby Swanson is their man.
Atlanta BravesBSelected 11 pitchers out of 13 possible picks.
Baltimore OriolesA-D.J. Stewart will become best OF prospect within two years.
Boston Red SoxB-Andrew Benintendi will be a great talent one day, but the Sox needed pitching.
Chicago CubsBAn extremely deep farm system just got deeper. Short on pitching prospects.
Chicago White SoxB+Pitching needed, pitching drafted. Carson Fulmer will be a very solid righty.
Cincinnati RedsC+With Devin Mesoraco developing into one of the best catchers in the MLB, why take a catcher at No. 8?
Cleveland IndiansA-The Indians might have gotten the steal of the draft by getting last year's top pick, pitcher Brady Aiken at No. 17.
Colorado RockiesAWith Tulo possibly on the way out, Brendan Rodgers will be his successor. A very good one.
Detroit TigersA-Beau Burrows and Tyler Alexander will help the Tigers, especially if they lose David Price.
Houston AstrosAThe Astros got the second-best player in the draft at No. 2 with LSU SS Alex Bregman.
Kansas City RoyalsB-Royals could have used one of two first-round picks to get an outfielder they will need very soon.
Los Angeles AngelsC+Taylor Ward will be the starting catcher one day, but they did not address the middle infield situation.
Los Angeles DodgersA-The Dodgers need to develop depth in their farm system. This draft was a decent start.
Miami MarlinsB-Brett Lilek is just one piece of a rotation puzzle the Marlins are trying to put together.
Milwaukee BrewersB+Taking three pitchers in the first three rounds for a farm system with no arms is just what Milwaukee needed.
Minnesota TwinsBTyler Jay had one of the lowest ERA's in the nation at Illinois.
New York MetsC+Without a pick until No. 53, the Mets were strapped to address their lack of offensive talent.
New York YankeesB+The Yankees needed starting pitching. The Yankees drafted starting pitching. Three arms taken in the first three rounds.
Oakland AthleticsCTaking two shortstops in the first two rounds won't help the outfield.
Philadelphia PhilliesB-The Phillies need a lot of help. Especially with pitching. They took two shortstops in the first three rounds.
Pittsburgh PiratesAKevin Newman will be the Pirates starting shortstop within two years.
San Diego PadresC+Not picking until 51 hurt the Padres chances to find an impact arm.
San Francisco GiantsD+The Giants needed outfielders. They have no MLB outfield talent in the minors. They took arms and infielders in the first three rounds.
Seattle MarinersB-Looking for help for Felix Hernandez in the future, the Mariners grabbed a pair of right-handers within 12 picks in the second round.
St. Louis CardinalsBThe Cardinals always find a way to mold whoever they draft into serviceable professionals. It will be no different with Nick Plummer.
Tampa Bay RaysA-Tampa nabbed one of the best outfield prospects in Garrett Whitley.
Texas RangersB+Despite missing out on good middle infield prospects, the Rangers picked a future No. 1 starter in Dillon Tate.
Toronto Blue JaysA-The Blue Jays might have a dark horse by picking RHP Jon Harris out of Missouri State.
Washington NationalsBAndrew Stevenson will anchor a Nationals outfield one day, but pitching was needed.

Steals of the draft

Daz Cameron, OF

Son of former MLB outfielder Mike Cameron, Daz Cameron was a top-five prospect entering the draft. He can hit for power, run well and field his position with the best of any in the field of prospects.

Yet Cameron kept falling and falling on draft day all the way down to number 37, as the Houston Astros continued their fantastic draft, according to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, by taking the outfielder.

According to MaxPreps, Cameron enjoyed a senior season at Eagle's Landing Christian Academy, where he batted .455 in 25 games played with eight home runs and 32 RBI.

Brady Aiken, P

Aiken was last year's top pick to the Houston Astros, but questions about his health led to contract disputes that the parties could not resolve.

Aiken re-entered the draft this year, and the Cleveland Indians picked him up 17th overall despite the fact that he is recovering from Tommy John surgery on his left elbow, which Dr. David Altchek performed April 1, according to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com.

Before the surgery, Aiken could reach top speeds in the mid-90s on his fastball and possessed a curveball and changeup as well, according to Bastian. Cleveland's director of scouting, Brad Grant, explained to Bastian why the Indians decided to take the risk on Aiken.

"

Right now, he's still just in the initial stages of returning from the surgery and just returning at this point to the range of motion exercises. I'm not going to go into the specifics of [the medical reports]. We obviously did our whole due diligence with him and we feel good about Brady and where we are with it.

"

If Aiken can come back to a semblance of what he was while the Astros were scouting him last season, the Indians have just obtained a number one starter.
