Irvin Comments on Returning to Seahawks Following Falcons Remark

Thursday, June 18

Gregg Bell of the News Tribune noted that Irvin wants to stay in Seattle, and that he feels motivated after the team didn't pick up his contract option for 2016.

Bell also added from Irvin that the idea of him wanting to play in Atlanta was "misinterpreted" and that this offseason has removed any complacency.

On May 14, Irvin was quoted by BlackSportsOnline.com (h/t Terry Blount of ESPN.com) that he is "going to be in Atlanta next season" while attending an Atlanta Hawks game. The Falcons hired former Seattle defensive coordinator Dan Quinn during the offseason to be their new head coach.

Since being drafted 15th overall in 2012, Irvin has had an inconsistent career. He's recorded 16.5 sacks and three interceptions with 25 starts over the past two seasons. He hasn't been shy about voicing his opinion, but as long as his play on the field warrants a long-term extension, someone will give him what he wants.
