Angels' Matt Joyce Shows He's Serious About Never Being Late Again
After getting benched on Monday for showing up late to the ballpark, Los Angeles Angels outfielder Matt Joyce is making sure he never makes that mistake again.
It's rare for Major League Baseball teams to play a day game on Mondays, but that was the case for Los Angeles this week. The Angels started a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays in Toronto on Monday, which was the Canadian holiday Victoria Day. In honor of the holiday, the teams opened the series with a matinee game.
Well, Joyce thought that Monday's contest was going to be a night game, so he didn't show up to the ballpark on time. As a result, he was scratched from the lineup.
"I assumed we had a night game since it was a day game Sunday and assumed we had a night game Monday since we normally always do," Joyce said, per ESPN.com. "By the time I realized it was a day game it was a little late."
Stuff like this happens from time to time. Even professional ballplayers are capable of making a simple mistake. However, the 30-year-old Joyce has taken steps to ensure he never shows up late to a game again:
It looks like he's learned his lesson.
