Diamondbacks, Phillies Play Rock-Paper-Scissors on Twitter During Rain Delay

Kyle NewportMay 17, 2015

Thanks to social media, baseball rain delays can actually be entertaining.

Major League Baseball teams have started playing games with each other on Twitter during rain delays in order to pass the time.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Colorado Rockies recently played a game of tic-tac-toe on Twitter, and the Cincinnati Reds and the Atlanta Braves used a delay to engage in a "knock knock" joke.

On Saturday night at Citizens Bank Park, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Philadelphia Phillies had to endure a 77-minute rain delay in the bottom of the third inning. Rather than sit around and do nothing, the teams competed in a friendly game of rock-paper-scissors on Twitter:

The Diamondbacks won the rock-paper-scissors battle, but the Phillies won the baseball game 7-5.
