Jackson Staying with Bucs at Full Salary for 2015

Sunday, Mar. 1

Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reported Jackson will be paid his due salary this season:

On Feb. 27, Pro Football Talk reported the Buccaneers had not asked Jackson to take a pay cut, which had been a topic of discussion this offseason:

That report came on the heels of CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora's report that Jackson wouldn't be amenable to taking a reduced salary for next season.

"Jackson will not agree to a pay cut, sources said, and the Bucs have plenty of cap space and need all the assets they can get, especially with it looking more and more like a done deal that they draft quarterback Jameis Winston first overall," La Canfora wrote.

Jackson has remained productive in three years with the Buccaneers, but his numbers in 2014 were his lowest over 16 games since 2007, per Pro-Football-Reference.com. He had 1,002 yards and two touchdowns on 70 catches.

The 32-year-old is set to make nearly $9.8 million in each of the next two years with cap hits of $12.2 million, per Spotrac. Those are huge numbers for an aging receiver who is coming off a down season, though the Buccaneers can't afford to dump any big-play assets on offense with their quarterback situation.

The Buccaneers are fortunate to have cap flexibility that will allow them to retain Jackson, not to mention having Mike Evans signed to a team-friendly rookie contract.
