Most Underrated Prospect: Landon Collins, SS, Alabama
Quarterbacks like Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston are making waves as the potential top picks in the 2015 NFL draft, but there are other players who will slip down the draft board who will also make an instant impact.
One of the top players to watch in the latter stages of the first round is Alabama Crimson Tide strong safety Landon Collins.
At 6’0” and 222 pounds, Collins isn’t the biggest player, but he has the strength and field awareness to be a dominant force in the NFL. In 14 games this season, he racked up 102 combined tackles, seven pass breakups, 4.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions and a forced fumble.
When asked what he’ll remember most from his college football experience, Collins showed his maturity while talking to Charlie Potter of 247Sports:
"Just the boys, the group of men that I played with, like Amari (Cooper) and T.J. (Yeldon), just the group of men I played with, my brothers. Now I got to watch them on TV and root them on. That’s the biggest memory, and I will never forget the people I grew up with, the people I played with and being with them.
"
There is no doubt Collins has the experience needed from playing at a defensive-heavy school like Alabama to make the transition to the NFL, but where he lands will be instrumental to his success at the next level.
The perfect landing spot is with the Philadelphia Eagles at No. 20 overall.
Philadelphia already has one of the most explosive offensive units in the NFL, but the defense has struggled. Not only would Collins help improve the 15th-ranked run defense (allowing 110.7 yards per game), but he would also be a major asset for the 31st-ranked Eagles secondary.
Collins will come in with high expectations as a potential first-round pick, but after playing with the Crimson Tide and the pressure on that program, the move to the NFL should be smooth. If he lands with the Eagles, the process will be expedited.
Predicted Landing Spot: No. 20 Philadelphia Eagles
