Matthews Active for Week 14

Sunday, Dec. 13

Albert Breer of NFL Network reported that Matthews is available to play against the Buffalo Bills.

Matthews Vital Cog in Eagles' Struggling Offense

Matthews, 23, was very solid in his rookie season, catching 67 receptions for 872 yards and eight touchdowns.

He's proved to be a solid addition to the Philadelphia offense and was one of the principal contributors to one of the most productive rookie receiving classes in NFL history, alongside young talents such as Sammy Watkins, Mike Evans, Odell Beckham Jr., Brandin Cooks, Kelvin Benjamin and Martavis Bryant.

When Jeremy Maclin elected to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason, Matthews became Philly's top option at receiver.

While the team appears to have plenty of other talented skill-position players to lean on—DeMarco Murray, Ryan Mathews, Darren Sproles, Zach Ertz and rookie Nelson Agholor chief among them—losing Matthews would have absolutely hurt the team's pass attack and taken away one of Sam Bradford's most trusted targets.

The Eagles have had plenty of struggles offensively this year and have been a disappointment in general, so losing Matthews would have been another tough break in what has proved to be a tough season in Philadelphia.
