Colts vs. Giants: TV Info, Spread, Injury Updates, Game Time and More

Sean ODonnellNov 1, 2014

The Indianapolis Colts will be taking a trip to MetLife Stadium to face the New York Giants in a Monday Night Football clash of two teams looking to rebound.

In Week 8, the Pittsburgh Steelers put up 51 points against the Colts, snapping the team's five-game winning streak and decreasing its cushion atop the AFC South. The Giants were afforded a bye in Week 8 but are still looking to get back on track following two consecutive divisional losses.

Can Andrew Luck continue his torrid pace this season and lead Indianapolis to its sixth victory, or will Eli Manning's offense take advantage of a reeling Colts defense en route to a much-needed win? As we await these teams to take the gridiron, let's glance at all of the game's pertinent information and predict the contest's eventual winner.

Defensive Rebounds

Neither the Colts nor the Giants looked good defensively in their last outings. If these teams are to get back to playing winning football, it will start on that side of the ball.

The Colts gave up a whopping 51 points in Week 8 against a Steelers team that has only eclipsed the 30-point mark one previous time this season. From the onset of the game, Indianapolis didn't have any kind of an answer for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger or his receivers, allowing four touchdown passes by halftime.

Pittsburgh's signal-caller finished the game completing 40 of his 49 passing attempts for 522 yards, six touchdowns and zero interceptions. Even more astounding is the fact that he wasn't sacked a single time despite such a huge amount of dropbacks.

The Colts can't be too happy this ball is on display at the Pro Football Hall of Fame:

The lack of a pass rush was very surprising considering the Colts had racked up 21 sacks as a team in seven previous contests.

Indianapolis' only saving grace was its run defense. While the team allowed 117 yards on the ground, the Steelers were only able to produce 3.7 yards per carry. This defense must keep up this kind of effort against the run while getting back to efficiently rushing the passer on Monday.

The Giants have seen mixed results on the defensive side of the ball this season, allowing 25 points or more in four of seven games. The team's last contest fell into that category after giving up a total of 31 points to the Dallas Cowboys.

Dallas' run-heavy attack allowed the team to completely control the time-of-possession battle, as New York couldn't figure out how to stop DeMarco Murray. The running back finished the game with 28 carries for 128 yards and a score.

Making matters worse was the Giants' inability to get heavy and consistent pressure on Tony Romo. Although he was sacked twice, he was only hit a total of four times. If this team can't find an effective way to get to Luck on Monday, the league's leading passer will have a field day.

Winning the Turnover Battle

Both of these teams are on the right side of the turnover department this season. The Giants are ranked 14th with a plus-three differential, and the Colts are ranked 17th with a plus-one differential. Although, those numbers don't tell the whole story for either team.

While the Giants have been winning the turnover battle this year, it doesn't exactly mean the offense has been mistake free. Manning has only thrown five interceptions, but combine those with five team fumbles and you have 10 giveaways in seven games. That's not a favorable margin.

Luckily, New York's secondary has been comprised of ball hawks this season, collecting 11 total interceptions.

According to Manning, the team is looking to cut back on those mistakes entering Week 9, via Dan Graziano of ESPN.com:

The Colts earned their plus-one differential in a completely different manner. The team only have six interceptions this season but a total of eight fumble recoveries has been huge to offset Luck's nine picks.

Yes, the Indianapolis signal-caller is on a blistering pace this year, but he's also on pace to tie his career high of 18 interceptions. This isn't a good sign considering the massive amount of picks the Giants have been able to come away with this season.

This is where things get interesting.

Indianapolis is thriving off of fumble recoveries. In New York's last game, it lost two fumbles to Dallas and lost the turnover battle. Conversely, the Giants are accumulating plenty of picks. In Week 8, Luck threw two interceptions against the Steelers.

These teams are playing into each other's strengths in this department, and the one squad that can figure out how to limit these mistakes will have an enormous upper hand on Monday night.

Game Prediction

Oct 26, 2014; Pittsburgh, PA, USA; Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck (12) congratulates running back Ahmad Bradshaw (44) after Bradshaw scored a touchdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers during the second half of their game at Heinz Field. The St

This one could come down to which quarterback has a better day.

With Rashad Jennings out for the Giants, rookie Andre Williams will see the bulk of the workload out of the backfield. He hasn't been very good in Jennings' absence, and that could force Manning to throw more often.

The Colts have been slightly more balanced on offense with the emergence of Ahmad Bradshaw, but Luck must cut down on turnovers. He's a great quarterback but tries to force the ball to receivers at times, and that has hurt the team dearly in the past.

With Reggie Wayne back in the fold on Monday, the advantage has to go to Luck, who has his full cast of weapons at his disposal. Meanwhile, Manning will miss the absence of Victor Cruz, and Odell Beckham Jr., while talented, may not be ready to fill those shoes just yet.

This one remains close into the fourth quarter, but the Colts pull away in the end.

Prediction: Colts 27, Giants 23
