The Tampa Bay Buccaneers used the seventh overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft to acquire Mark Barron. Now, the team is reportedly looking to trade him as he's failed to live up to the hype as a potential game-changing player on defense.
Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports Barron is firmly on the trade block ahead of today's deadline:
It's not fair to call Barron a complete bust. He's tallied exactly 88 total tackles in each of his first two seasons and is on a pace for a similar total this year. Yet, he's failed to force many turnovers and hasn't excelled in coverage as the Bucs hoped.
Responding to a question on Twitter, Pete Damilatis of Pro Football Focus notes the safety graded below average at the position:
Marc Sessler of NFL.com reiterated:
"Barron has struggled at safety this season and generally underwhelmed after being taken seventh overall in the 2012 NFL Draft. With just three interceptions over two-plus seasons, the backstop -- ranked No. 66 at his position by Pro Football Focus -- hasn't lived up to his pedigree.
"
With Tampa Bay quickly fading out of the playoff picture, it's seemingly trying to get some type of return for both Barron and Doug Martin before their value falls any further.
Whether any team will bite before the deadline is the mystery.
