Michael Floyd's Fantasy Football Value Remains High with Carson Palmer at QB

Sean ODonnellOct 25, 2014

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer is now fully healed from a nerve contusion in his throwing shoulder that held him out for three games this season, and the only people happier than wide receiver Michael Floyd are his fantasy owners.

Palmer and Floyd began to establish a nice chemistry in 2013, and many fantasy enthusiasts pegged the wide receiver as a candidate for massive production in 2014. Things started with a bang for the third-year receiver after collecting five receptions for 119 yards against the San Diego Chargers in Week 1.

Unfortunately, that would be Palmer's last game until Week 6. The end result was a roller coaster ride for Floyd, producing one nice performance sandwiched between two forgettable showings. Here's a look at Floyd's numbers without Palmer at the helm:

Those numbers aren't worthy of much more than a flex play or spot starter due to the inconsistency from week to week. Fortunately for Floyd's fantasy owners, that's all in the past now.

With Palmer in the fold, the wide receiver hasn't produced fewer than 10 fantasy points in a single contest this season. Here's a look at his numbers with Palmer in action:

Now, that's consistency.

During an interview with Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com, Floyd made it known that he and Palmer were getting their chemistry back by putting in extra time together, saying they were "making it work."

Apparently, they made it work nicely. NFL Fantasy Football tweeted this just minutes into Palmer's first game back from injury:

Some fantasy owners have been concerned with the even distribution of targets in Arizona's passing offense. First off, that shouldn't be a surprise with players like the prolific Larry Fitzgerald and versatile Andre Ellington also involved. Still, Floyd will continue to see his share of targets due to the amount of time he spends on the field.

Take a look at Floyd's snap count in comparison to the team's offensive plays in each game so far this season:

2Giants5369
349ers6269
5Broncos5659
6Redskins6475
7Raiders7478

Many of those offensive plays are passes. Arizona features a vertical passing game, and according to TeamRankings.com, puts the ball in the air 57.89 percent of the time Palmer and Co. are on the field.

Another potential chance for Floyd to garner more targets is this tweet from Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com, as he alluded to a forthcoming changing of the guard in Arizona:

Week 8 is another huge opportunity for Floyd to come away with big game. The Cardinals are at home—where passing plays jump to comprise 60.82 percent of their offense—and are facing a Philadelphia Eagles team ranked 23rd against the pass this season, allowing an average of 256.5 yards per game.

Making things even more favorable for Floyd, the Eagles are giving up an average of 24.5 fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers, via ESPN.com. It should come as no surprise when Floyd reaches double-digit fantasy points for the fourth consecutive time this season with Palmer under center.

Be sure to start this wide receiver in all fantasy formats going forward. As long as Palmer remains healthy, Floyd is in line to come away with the monster season many fantasy enthusiasts have been anticipating.
