Steelers' Antonio Brown Records 5 or More Receptions in 19 Conseuctive Games

Bleacher Report MilestonesSep 22, 2014

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown recorded a 19th consecutive game with five or more receptions in Sunday's 37-19 win over the Carolina Panthers, marking the NFL's first such streak since Laveranues Coles did the same for the New York Jets in 2002 and 2003, per ESPN Stats & Info.

According to Pro-Football-Reference.com's play index, Smith's streak is tied with Coles' as the second longest in NFL history, trailing only the 21 consecutive games of five or more receptions recorded by Jimmy Smith for the Jacksonville Jaguars from Dec. 3, 2000 to Sept. 15, 2002.

There have only been 10 such streaks of 15 or more games, with Herman Moore the only repeat performer. Washington Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon saw his own streak of 17 five-reception games end with a one-catch performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2 of this season.

Brown's streak, which dates back to Week 1 of last season, has included six games with exactly five receptions. He's averaging 6.9 catches during the streak, with his high-water mark of 12 catches coming from a Week 4 loss to the Minnesota Vikings last year.

Both consistent and explosive, Brown is finally starting to get his due as one of the top wide receivers in the league. He was impossible to ignore Sunday night, as while his 10 catches only resulted in 90 yards, two of them went for scores.

Brown is now tied with Garcon and New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman for fifth in the NFL at 22 receptions. The star Steeler is also tied for fifth at 296 receiving yards, even with Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin. Last but not least, Brown's three touchdown receptions place him in an eight-way tie for third place, behind Denver Broncos tight end Julius Thomas (five) and Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall (four).

One year after his 110 receptions ranked second to only Garcon's 113, Brown is poised to challenge for the league lead in most of the major receiving categories.
